Good to see you are already promoting it in your signature.

Looking at your forum though, you can see the most 2 popular sections are the graphics and multimedia

and the software and hardware discussion.

This is great information. Consider how you could put these most popular sections above the fold
of your page - similar to WF.

Most popular at the top.

Then go to blogs that focus on these topics and participate.

Use Google Alerts to advise you about the blogs that are freshly updated.

Then you need to participate in the blogs and add content - yep it may take sometime.

Target the popular blogs.

You could also write articles related to those 2 popular topics on your forum.

The key is to target to your audience otherwise you are wasting your efforts!

Thank you all for your suggestions. I am doing yahoo answers and directory submissions. Submissions are taking slow cause it takes some time to have your site approved and all that.

@Easy Cash: as you can see from the anchor my forum is not all about graphics and multimedia. we are trying to focus on web development. i will take your advice. thank you very much.

I'm aware it takes a lot of work and time but we'll get there.

  I'm just going to suggest that you stick around and learn SEO over the next few months. Your going to get bombarded with a lot of information, some good and some bad. If you can try and test stuff for yourself. Once you see that it works you can outsource it to save time. Finally, Welcome to the board!

  The best option is first you have to know your niche, than promote your forum with press release, article directories, and another online forum but find forum that meet your niche and hugh member inside, and for sure that your forum will be on top 10 page you have build backlinks, there is many things you can do, so start now....

You are promoting your forum right now :-) ...because its a web development and e-commerce forum, I would promote it in ebay, e-commerce, business and web design forums. I would also comment on related blogs, mainly business or ebay blogs, people that would need the forum most or are setting up an online business.

I would also create a blog talking about web development, web design creation, e-commerce etc...I would also submit my rss feed to feed directories. I would write a press realease and submit to press release directories..

One thing you could do is write articles. I think EVERYONE here will agree that they are worthwhile. One thing I like to do is build links to my articles and this helps them rank even higher. Good Luck!

All the tips that are posted here are all really helpful in every sense that is like through classified posting in free classified sites, promoting through social networking sites like facebook, twitter and linkedin which are good in getting networks and groups and also which helps you to get so many people on your site and to get your services and products that you want everyone to know about.

This way you can promote your site and also you can go for making some blogs that reflects your services or your products that you want to sell.

Trial and error. Everything that has been written here works to some extent and in certain cases. Test. Test. Test. Don't get lost in too much reading without taking action.

Choose a short list from these responses, the shorter the better, and work the list for your site. See what happens. Add to the short list if nothing is happening. You have to make the method work.

Stick to it, keep working (action), and stay consistent.

My favorite ways to promote and get some links are forum posts, article sites, free classifieds, directories, and blog commenting. Be sure that these sites are dofollow, for maximum benefit!
