Hi,

Any ideas to be top in bing? I see that if google is making me crazy, bing is even more. I don´t know how to do it in bing or if it is worthy, because for the moment it seems that there is not so much traffic there.

Thanks.
#bing
  • Same principals for Google apply to Bing.

But in spite of Microsoft throwing money at bing by the billions... little has changed.

Don't waste your time worrying about Bing.

I have a site with a pretty popular keyword (90k/month), and it is ranked #7 on bing. I know it isn't #1 or #2, but I would expect to at least see a few clicks from it. I haven't seen one from Bing for weeks.

From my experience with other SE's (primarily Google), you may get next to no clicks at #7. It all depends on the niche market really, as ever.

That's not meant to be a trite comment; it's more that it's pretty hard to do a comparison - unless: have you had significant clicks on Google.

Also, Quantcasting both google.com & bing.com does show some interesting differences (though, in Bing's case, the data is estimated):

Google seems to attract a greater proportion in the $100k+ earnings bracket & some other ethnic differences; as I say, though, the Bing data is still estimated.

        Dez.

You are 100% right, Well people are not yet started using Bing you know. I think it will take some more time to come to competition with google,

Building links for google is quite tough, but it will apply for the other search engines as well, So better try your maximum with google, That's better IMO.

I don know about Bing and it is a little bit strange. Once I used Bing to search sth and closed the website I wanted to browse by accident, then I searched the same keywords again but never find the website again.

Well, Bing is good, I do get traffic from them but I have no clue about how to rank in there. I just do. I'd say try getting traffic from Google instead, and to drive traffic from social media and sites.

Bing is a mystery at the most. But the strategies on Google will not work is what I found from here. Many of my new born sites ranked high with Bing. But after a while I saw them drop. But traffic when I receive 300 from Google bing sends me 5. This show the effectiveness of Bing and Google.
My advice is do not spend your efforts in Bing. Concentrate on Google.

First of all - don't worry about Bing. Even if you rank well, the traffic you'll get is a tiny proportion of what you'll get from Google.

Secondly, I've had good rankings in Bing as a side effect of backlinks. It seems that Bing gives weight to some of the backlinks that Google isn't so keen on, like social bookmarks and profile links. Sometimes I'll drop a few bookmarks to get indexed quickly by Google, but then I appear in Bing SERPs for my anchor text - has anybody else seen this pattern?

Yes I would agree with this - it makes sense for bing to rank websites in a similar way to google as this is the de-facto standard. I do actually hope bing gets market share as I like the aesthetics of it.

The user demographic for Bing is different to that of Google.

Bing appears to favour linking from pages that share a similar topic area.

Well, actually Bing is a new option. A different search engine to get different results, and why not, more. It is not convenient to affirm that it gives unwanted results, it just gives different results, but still related to the search field. And why is not convenient? cause the websites that are indexed on Bing would probably others than those which are indexed on Google. Is not about what's better...it's just another option, at least in terms of searches.

I think Bing is less important. Most of the internet users and serious people use Google for searcing any information. But still if you would like to optimize your site for Bing I think you need to properly optimize the on page portions of your site. I think, though I'm not very sure that Bing gives much importance to the on page portions. But still I suggest you to work mainly for Google who can only send you target traffic, not Bing!

ok to all of those people saying that google and bing are nearly the same

you're talking out of your A$$

bing's rubbish they're miles away from google and the relevancy that bing gives you is a joke

i have a website that's three years old in the online gaming niche (kids flash games)

i have done very good seo with it, followed all the basic principlas of title tags, header tags, description etc

i don't have my keywords in the domain as i've created a brand

i have a lot of high pr links (actual page) with a variety of anchor text and thousands of links on inner pages of high pr sites again with a variety of anchor text, site explorer gives me just shy of 25000 links

I've been number 1/2 for my main keyword on:

        google.com

        google.ca

        google.co.uk

and all the other english speaking google's for the last 18 months and fully expect to stay there

bing put me on page 14 with a load of BS sites out ranking me, even yahoo put me on page 4

Bing is a load of crap I'm glad they're miles away from google

Bing is a load of crap I'm glad they're miles away from google

Bing is a piece of crap, I've made a great website with a great service and because of this it's very popular and has a lot of links

Google realizes this and they put me to the top for my keywords

Bing does not realize because it's crap so they put me on page 14

as for google "slaps" they do this because they care about users more than webmasters, they want to return relevant, helpful and useful content, if you don't rank well because you have a BS review site you only have yourself to blame

from my experience if you make a great website google will look after you, if high quality links google will look after you

I also rank on the first page for "online blackjack" with a different site, bing puts me on page 9, it just crap, I hate it, getting to the top of bing is a fluke and that's why it's crap.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if their algortithm was simply scrape the web for websites which contain the words that the user searched for and then pick the sites at random

Bing is still a less sophisticated search engine than Google. That being said, your links are going to actually mean more in Bing due to this lack of sophistication. Literally, just focus on Google and Bing will follow. That's how it's played out for every one of my websites. I rank well in Google, and shortly after, I rank well in Bing. I don't know if they're copying the algorithm of what, but that's how it plays out for me. One should never seek to rank in Bing anyway.

bing sees links faster from my experience. A site of mine ranks 500 while it ranks 7 on bing. 3 months later, its number 15-20 on google and 2 on bing. a couple months later, they are both on the first page....google still brings the bulk of the traffic though..but the extra traffic doesnt hurt.

Basically, its just like google, but its not gonna take as long.

Keep building links, you will rank in bing in no time (of course this will still ultimately depend on your keyword)

I have noticed this as well. Many of the sites I work with responded to backlink building by initially ranking well in Bing then Google shortly thereafter.

I have to disagree with most peoples attitudes towards bing and other search engines.

Yes, it's true that google (at this time) generates more traffic than the other search engines.

However, that may not always be the case.

Also, if someone were to successfully crack the bing code and could rank sites well, there is still a lot of money to be made.

If I could rank on the first page of bing for dating... who cares what my rank is on google... I'm still going to get a lot of traffic and make a lot of money.

    Just something to think about.

Bing has some similarities with Google like it likes unique content and aged domains but there are some differences too. Like you should not have more than 2 keyword phrases on a page for better seo. Also Bing seems to like static sites more than blogs.

Regarding not getting ranked on Bing, I just checked some of my sites in the Bing Webmaster Centre, and I noticed that they are listed with Region = "jp" (when it ought to be "us" - the region code "jp" seems to have been picked at random, as the sites have nothing to do with Japan at all, that I can think of).

I then tried searching for my keyword phrases on bing.jp, and the sites are indeed listed on the first page there. So perhaps it could be something similar for those of you who are having problems getting ranked for your keywords?

My sites are static html, and apparently the problem can be resolved if I add a meta tag for content language, which I haven't done yet.

if you had a games website making $15000 a month because it ranks very highly on google and it was there because google realizes what a great and popular website it is yet Bing chooses to completely ignore it you'd be pissed of with it to
