Ive heard that backlinks are one of the best ways of getting you to 1st page on google.

What are good backlinks and bad backlinks.

Are they a lot of work, and if so, is there better ways of organically getting on the front page.

    Start dating Paris Hilton, and make a crazy tape. Let the tabloids "find" a "lost" copy. Then create a "travel" tape called "One Hot Night I Went To Paris". Make a facebook fanpage, put out press releases with it's url and then tweet it like crazy. Lots of link "juice".

    bad backlinks are from places like link farms and places where you do reciprocal linking.. But unless these are the only links you have to you site they still cannot hurt you in reality..

    other wise a competitor would simply buy thousands of these types of links and have them pointed to your site and have you de-indexed which I dont believe will happen.

    Good backlinks are those which is coming to your site directly on proper anchor text and bad links like your link put on spam page, prone site and many more.

    Profile method is good for backlining. I heard that some warriors directories are not good for SEO purposes.

    Good links are those links from relevant sites.
    Links from dofollow sites are good as well.

      i dont believe the relevant sites links is the case. Not in my testing anyways..

      You can easily test this buy 2 domains.. install wordpress on both and target the same keywords. Create articles that target the keywords and spin the articles 40% and post on the same days at the same times to the 2 blogs (3/4 posts a week) . Build 30 backlinks a day from relevant themed sites to one blog..

      On blog 2 build 40 unrelated themed backlinks of the same pr as the related ones.

      ping each site and add them to rss feed and submit the feed to the rss dirs..

      Then check the #rank of the site after 3/4 weeks..

    You have to pick a certain keyword you'd like to rank for in Google when getting backlinks in order for your site to show up on the first page for that given keyword. Set your keyword as the anchor text of a link on a site, and make sure the site doesn't have too many outbound links. Also, DoFollow is a huge plus.
