Do You Ping Your Backlinks?

So... I've been doing lots of different things to build links but I'm not sure if I should ping my squidoos, hubpages, article submissions etc? Will pinging bring about un-naturally fast backlinks? Is it a good thing?

What's YOUR take?

I have tried it, but it never seemed to make much of a difference to me.

If you're using a new domain that you freshly setup it's much better to let Google find the backlinks naturally or you might find yourself in the Google "sandbox" which is where your rankings can freeze up for an extended period of time or you can get deindexed.

Once you have established sites you can ping them if you'd like.

    Hi Brandon

I found that organizing my back links into an RSS feed and then submitting that feed to lots of RSS dirs works gang busters.

P.S. If you need more backlinks check out the link in my sig.

If your feeder sites are not yet indexed, pinging them would help for search engines to crawl to those web 2.0 sites and eventually helping each and everyone of them to be "found and discovered".

... As would submitting the RSS feed to aggregators. Plus you're building link juice to those places where you dropped the links. Because the aggregators list your feed and the links therein, for search engines to crawl.

I use to ping my squids and hubs back when it seemed to make a difference. Now weather I am blog comment posting, article posting or whatever I just let them be found naturally especially on new sites.

With my older sites that are 2-10 years old I depending on the links I may ping them. They will be found eventually and it is usually just a matter of weeks as opposed to hours and days.

I like to play it safer with newer sites and let them be discovered naturally.

Hmm well I have a domain that has now been indexed for a couple weeks, hopefully pinging 5 of my web 2.0's won't get me in any trouble? : /

Makes me worry a little bit since it's a fairly new domain and over the past couple days created a few different web 2.0's and pinged them. Right now I'm hoping I'm dancing and not being SB'd. I was indexed at page 21, moved to 14 last night, now is at 14 today. Hmph.

I ping link URl's and content URL's, and I submit the lot to as many RSS feed sites as possible as well.

Not really sure, but I have a huge ping list added to my WP blog. It pings those services every single time I post.
