Plural KW's with Xfactor method

I just thought I would bring out a few things I've been noticing about targetting pluralized versions of a keyword with the xfactor method. I have made 3 sites based on the pluralized version of a keyword for a couple of reasons.

1.) There is usually not nearly as much competition for the plural version.
2.) Sometimes the pluralized version of the keyword is the only top level domain available.

Well at first I thought I had really hit on something with this but it seems that the google keyword tool is way off on the search volume. Right now I'm holding the first position for two keywords which according to the Google keyword tool get 2000 searches a month...yet the websites are only getting 5 or 6 uniques per day. I was wondering if maybe I just got unlucky with both of these niches or if anyone else has noticed this as well?

Also I was wondering if I can still target the unpluralized version of the keyword with my anchor text backlinks or not. It is very weird. Like I said, plural version of keyword I've got #1 spot. Unpluralized version, I'm at #357. That seems like a huge difference in ranking based on one letter. In both cases I have absolutely no backlinks and I got the number 1 spot based on only on page optimization.

So anyone who may have some experience in this particular case that could comment, please do and help me perfect my keyword selection to maximize my results.

    Plurals are treated as individual words (to the singular) so you do need to rotate your anchor text between the two. This can actually be useful though because searchers' will often use a plural while many website pages won't, usually due to grammar (or vice-versa).

    Build a few links and that singular word will rocket up the rankings.

    As for the 2000 searches per month, is that broad, exact, phrase? Also look at the trending to see the history of the term. Browsing isn't as active over the holidays and people take a bit to get back to normal so that might play a part.

      I too was going for some plurals only thinking I could dominate those specific versions of they phrases I was after. But I've seen now sites targeting the singular also ranking higher than me for the plural, probably based somewhat off their singular ranking.

      New strategy is going to be trying to cover both but focusing on the singular and in many cases higher volume phrase.

        In my experience Google Keyword Tool can be wildly innaccurate with its search volumes.
        I started looking at Google's search-based keyword tool as an alternative and the search figures for the same keyphrases differ hugely.

          Man there is hundreds of threads about this method. Please use the forum search function. Most members are tired of hearing of this anyway and I will advise you (if you're not doing this to help advertise the product) to scrap it and go do something more worthwhile. You will only waste your time on this junk.

            I know their are hundreds of threads about this method however I have not seen this question asked. And I don't know how you can make the judgement that "most members" are tired of hearing about it. I happen to think that a lot of members are very active in those threads...As for the rest of your statement, why do you think this is crap? There are lots of people using the strategy involved and doing very well with it. No reason that other people and I can't make use of the strategy to develop some income...whether it be short term or long term.

            As to the other questions, I always use exact match with the keyword tool. I learned this the hard way with my first website when I spent a week or two backlinking to a keyword that had a huge broad search numbers but very low with the exact.

            I will definately build some anchor text with the singular version of the keyword and see how the results go. I've been doing very well with my xfactor style sites but this kind of put a hiccup in my strategy so I wanted to verify why this happening and ask some questions. I think I got my answers...probably more related towards the holidays.
