When should I open a store front?

OK so my online business is really picking up and now I have two hired staff local to me for help. I'm thinking about opening up an office to handle the amount of work that is coming in and hiring 4-6 sales people and 2 tech people. At what point should I consider myself safe to do this?

I have 12 months worth of savings for emergency money and enough for my first two months of operating costs for a new office. Should I simply wait some more or go for it in hopes of making more money? I'm sure some of you have more experience with this so what should I be thinking about in terms of feeling secure about such a big move?

Is there a reason you need a physical location? I know at least a few millionaires that keep everything virtual, but that may not fit your model. Also, how fast do you want to hire people. Will you be able to train them all?

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

I need an actual office for what I offer and do. I want to hire people immediately as there is a huge market that needs what I offer. Yes I can train them all in a very short time frame.

  • There is no "safe business".

    No risk, no reward.

    That's business.

Before you hire sit down and write out an extensive business plan.

been there done that. I just wanted to know if there was a set figure that all people go by with regards to savings amounts before opening up shop. Let's put it this way, my last quarter filings made around 100k and this figure could be much higher if I have a shop open but I'm afraid of jumping in too early. My personal finances are safe up to one year but my business safety net is only 2-3 months. Is there a formula that most go by to insure the longevity of a business store front start up?
