Question about link wheels.

Hey all,

I am considering implementing linkwheels into my backlink strategy. I have been reading a little on how google has caught on to the linkwheels. Does this mean google penalizes you for them or that the links in the web2.0 sites aren't more powerful than any other link?

    Hi Petelta,

Google can certainly detect closed linkwheel setups. If you have a standard six hub linkwheel and close the linkwheel (when the last hub links back to the first creating a circle) this can be considered link manipulation. This could actually hurt your site.

However, there are many ways to setup a linkwheel that will not hurt your site. Try using open linkwheels which use a random linking structure. Incorporate article marketing and video marketing into your linkwheels, and update the content in your linkwheels at a natural speed.

These extra steps will not only help make your linkwheel more powerful but it will also ensure you do not receive a penalty. Instead of creating a few sites for the sole purpose of backlinks it appears you are creating more informative sites which are simply linking to other informative and relative sites.
