I don't dig Digg...anyone getting results there?

Well for many of my keywords that I simply digg (the whole page), I am indexed pretty quickly within the top 50. I've actually gotten a few decent clicks from digg as well, you just have to give people what they are looking for.

I have gotten indexed on the first page, and many times in the first position, within as little as 28 minutes using Digg.

However, I suspect that some of those rankings were based on my browsing behavior.
(don't think for one second that Google doesn't know almost every move you make,
whether you use their tools or not. Most other sites you browse use their stuff. ie: analytics)

But I have checked with friends in vastly different parts of the country and my diggs
were listed for them too.

So it depends I guess.

Digg is great if you submit the right stuff. Most Digg users are not interested in anything commercial. Find a way of submitting non commercial stuff, tech, environment news etc, using your blog/site and have ads/more subtle pitches within it.

Digg and EZA seem to be among the first backlinks that Google lists for many of my pages, sometimes, and sometimes it seems to completely ignore both and list other backlinks first

Hi all,
I'm a relative newbie and don't know much about places like Digg and Reddit.
Can someone explain to me in a simple manner how exactly you guys get your site's link at these places? From what I understood (using Digg as example) they require articles from the original source in order to be accepted. And when I click on these links I am taken directly to those sites. But they're usually news and media sites.
How and where would one put his website's link?
I know this must be a stupid question.

You go to Digg and sign up for a free account. Then you go to the page of your website that you want to backlink and you copy the URL. Then you go back to Digg and submit the URL. I can't remember what the exact process at Digg is, but I think you look for the "submit" or "add a site" button and press it, then paste your URL into the provided space and follow the onscreen directions.

What if you just have some niche site, for example. Is that a valid submission? And when people speak about getting Digg/Reddit backlinks is this all they do?

1. Yes.
2. Yes. If the page doesn't change, I would recommend adding it to Digg only once. If the page changes, like when you have a new WP post, or a new product added to a static page, that's when you want to add it to Digg's index again.

Adding to sites like Digg is very much like adding to an index of websites. You don't want to keep indexing the same exact content over and over again. It would be the equivalent of a dictionary that only has one word defined over-and-over on every page. If the content changes, then you need to index again.
3. Yes and no. There are some advanced things you can do, but this is the basic one that everyone deals with.

Unless you are on the first page and your story is NEWS, then Digg is only good for indexing IMHO.

you can use wordpress for your site and get the digg plugin which will submit an article or post to Digg. Although nothing permanent, as it is good for about 200 visitors for a day. The other plugins for social site submission are useful and you may want to add them to your site as well to allow visitors to auto submit pages or posts that they like for you

I guess its possible just to get indexed but there are so many better ways now. As far as using Digg to get traffic, I wouldn't bother just because its basically a huge "clan" of people running the site and picking the articles.

digg is still good in terms of backlink, but i use this mainly to index my site faster...i hope i can reach the front page of digg in the future with the help of my digg friends and fans....
