Properly writing tags?

What is the proper way to write tags for blog posts or bookmarking? Do you use longer phrases or complete phrases as well as single words?

Say my description was for "buy new ford car"

Would this be correct: buy,new,ford,car or buy, new, ford car, new ford car....

What's the best way to maximize tag writing?

    Aaron,
    I would write the tag as: buy car,new car,ford,car,cars,vehicle, so that each tag is relevant by itself. Because "buy" doesn't really relate to your post. Conversely "new ford car" is very narrow. Having said that it may depend more on the matching capability of the individual site's search engine.
