Any major tips for achieving consistent Adsense revenue?

I know there is basic golden rule that any idiot understands: get traffic.

But are there any other big points that one should keep in mind when approaching this (making money with Adsense). I have had Adsense on many of my sites over the years with considerable traffic combined and after 1 year going I will soon be receiving my first $100 check. That's too long. Granted I did nothing to make the money that's just pennies a day. Any golden rules for maximizing adsense potential? Thanks in advance.

    Go with high paying niches - despite the competition it's still the only way to make any decent money, make sure you have your adsense highly visible above the fold, keep your sites very simple - dont give your visitors too many options to click on.

    If you give an example of one of your sites maybe people could give you some more suggestions...

    More details needed:

    -How many original articles do you have on your sites?
    -Are they keyword rich?
    -Do you add content each week?
    -How do you go about building your backlinks?

      I would like to hear some advice too.
      It's been 1 month since I started my website and so far I earned only 3 dollars. ;(
      I posted about 40 articles(all unique).
      I get only 40-60 people a day.
      Maybe my problem is that my site is in Russian,and is concentrated on russian people.

        Like the others have said: simplify your ad placement, blend the ads with your site, and get backlinks and traffic. I don't even worry about high-paying keywords when I first build a new site. (I do make sure the niche itself is profitable, of course.)

        After a few months of getting decent traffic to your site, you can look at trends of what people are searching for and tweak your keywords around to better fit that.

          I wouldn't focus on high paying keywords as there is a quality score built into how much you get paid.

          Instead, do your keyword homework and search for keywords within your niche that get traffic and gun to get to the first page of google. High SE engine ratings + high traffic keywords = money. That is the bottom line and the equation you should be working on...

            What's the best way to find high paying keywords? This is one part of adsense that has gone straight over my head. A few of the sites I had that were getting better traffic I have put on the back burner while I started up some better sites (trial + error kind of). You can check out Gluten-Free Pizza | TheGlutenFreeFoodList.com - Gluten Free and Celiac Disease Information and News I feel the ad placement on here is pretty good, I don't know if this constitutes good placement though. Anxiously awaiting tips thanks

              There are some tools out there which estimate what areas pay and also what maximum Adwords bids are. However, they are not too reliable.

              Mostly you can just look at what the ads are advertising. The higher the cost of the item or service they are selling, the higher the Adsense ad will pay usually.

              Pool Pump ads will pay more than dog collar ads for example.

              The ad placement there is the problem. It is not blended and it is an obvious ad. The best location for maximum CTR is within your content, not on side bars. Try the 250x250 and other square ad units and place then within your posts, just after the post title and watch your CTR increase significantly. As for keyword pricing, try SpyFu

                1. Build sites on ultra competitive niches.
                2. Put up a few (3-5) original articles on the site.
                3. Put up an optin form to build a list.
                4. Put up several hundreds articles (get from directories). It's your choice whether you want to link to them.
                5. Mail snippets of the articles to the list built in step 3. Use autoresponder to automate this. Don't call it a newsletter though.
                6. Make sure you add adsense on all pages.

                Promote... Rinse and Repeat.

                You should be able to make in excess of $100 per day with this.

                    No, I do not rewrite the articles that I got from directories. And, I do not make them accessible publicly. By that, I mean I don't link to them whether in my articles or sitemap. The only way any human gets to them is via the snippets in my newsletters.

                    No, I did not make my $100 per day via Adsense on 1 site. What I mean is... It's possible to make $100 per day with only 1 site with adsense but unless you have huge traffic (new and recycled), it's gonna be difficult.

                    I do have sites making close to that though. But, it's not $100 per day per se. Rather, once the income is average out over the entire month, it's close to $100 per day.

                    Think a combination of Adsense + other onsite monetization + list marketing etc.

                  Nice strategy.I am working on a site that will be hosting Adsence too.However,i wanted to know if you did make $100 per day with only a site or if you've got more than one site.

                  That's exactly what I'm attempting with my new site. Step 5, though, you say to not call it a newsletter. What do you call it, then?

                    I just offer an ebook when they sign up for my list. Then, on a weekly basis, I just send them an email telling them "a new article has been posted" followed by the article title and snippets in the email body. Don't mention anything about newsletter in the email as then it would be a breach of Adsense TOS.

                    On the article page itself, it is just a normal article page. Just a title, adsense block and then the article content. Plus, maybe a new optin form to cross promo your other newsletters. If you use wordpress, this is managed easily.

                      Great tip there Richard. However, i don't quite understand the 'new optin form' you mentioned. Does that mean you'll have to set up another optin form on the same page in your site to cross promote your other newsletters? What about the optin form that captured your previous subscribers? Where'll that be placed?

                I have to agree with IMB on this one. Your ad placement and ad type are the problems. Most visitors have become blind to banner ad styles. I would try to stay away from Adsense ads other than the text-only version. Also, you need to integrate the ads directly into your content. Go with a large square or rectangle format that is the first thing in your article. 250x250 would be good or 336x280 (although it may be a little too large for your current theme), and make the text of your article "float" around the ad. You should also try to incorporate and ad unit at the bottom of your article as well.

                Make sure that you don't go over your allotment of ad blocks per page. You'll probably need to remove the sidebar ads when your adding in the new blocks into the content.

                    I have alot of adsense blogs with single post.

                    Sometimes I get click from these blogs that I created years ago. And the traffic is free.

                    What I noticed was the domain name plays an important role on how google ranks you.

                    If you blog url is weightloss.blogspot.com, I am sure you will get alot of traffic.

They cover all the stuff from ad placement, etc. I do recommend you to spy on some other website that also monetize their web using adsense. Esp those big guys who earn a lot from adsense. Cheat from his web page, how did they put things together. You might learn something on the way. This is how I optimize mine...
