Now I have heard people tell me that .info's do not rank as well as .com's but from what I have seen I have found them to rank just as good and for 89 cents they are well worth the investment

I have no idea what you site is about but if you are targeting SEO, there is a certain human trust factor to consider as well. I would think most people would have a lower trust factor for a .info site so would click less often.

      my 2 cents....

Do you realize how much better the world could be if domains cost $100 a piece?

And before you say, that's just wrong, "what about the little guy that just wants to blog about his dogs teddy bear collection?". I say fine, they can use blogger.com and other free blogging hosts.

They do that for ONE day a year, lulz.

I buy hundreds of .info sites for micro niche autoblogs and after 1.5-2 months they rank as well as .Coms on Google, Y!, and now Bing.

I have several .info sites and actually have compared them to the .com sites that I have.

to be honest for .89cents with godaddy I would not worry. All my sites are on the first page of google and msn with no additional work than with a .com

I really cant see the .info as being less valuable

It may be so in your mind

For what its worth, the site I'm helping someone develop and market is in the legal advice niche. He is a practicing lawer and the product he is developing deals with credit collections.

Do you think it would be better to get a domain that has the keywords in the name that ends in .info... Or go with a domain name that doesnt have his keywords but ends in .com?

Go to Google and search for "craft ideas" and see what you find. The #1 site is a .info site.

People may not be as impressed by a .info site, but I don't think the search engines care.

There is no difference whatsoever. I know plenty of high-ranking and high-pr .info domains.

An .info domain needs a lot of work for ranking in higher positions than a .com domain... .com domains are the best domains.

I have tested .infos and many people may disagree with me on this but I dont care. Because Ive had experience with this subject. If you do a little research you will find that .infos were associated with quite a bit of spammers considering that are under a buck to buy. Go0gle wont admit it but they dont give much weight to .infos. well at least not right away. You REALLY have to prove yourself. BUT I have found that MSN LOVES .infos. I had a few of them rank #1 spot in MSN but never to be found in go0gle.

Now true there are some high pr .infos out there. But if you want to slice the competition and do well in rankings in a faster amount of time than I would advise staying away from .infos. But it also depends on which SE your targeting. .coms .nets for go0gle and .infos if your targeting MSN.

      Just my experience.

I believe also that it depends on the competiton of the keyword you are trying to rank for.

I purchased a .info domain for testing purposes, and my targeted keyword has just over 1200 searches a moth according to Google.

Now originally i did not plan to do much on-page SEO as I was mostly testing ways of generating more traffic from video sites and social media websites. After a couple weeks i did a random search for my targeted keywords in Google, expecting so see links to my youtube website of Digg submission.

Instead I found my .info site ranked at #8 an when i visited the site it had alread achieve a PR 2 ranking, in under 2 mths with less than 20 backlinks.

No one is sure how Google algorithm operates, but as far as .info domains go, I believe if your targeting keywords where the competition has very little strenght in terms of the number an quality of backlinks, then investing in a .info is not a bad choice.

I remember hearing this quesiton in one of Jeff Johnson's presentations...

His answer was that after LOTS of testing they found the TLD's to be all equal.

Therefore a .com and a .info held ranking abilities so similar they couldn't find a difference or that in fact they were just equal.
