I'm Getting Some Free Backlinking

Never thought this day would come..
Maybe God is happy with me.. or is angry at someone else.

For some reason.. Someone is building a linkwheel and is mistakenly linking to my website rather than their intended site.

I'm getting a ton of backlinks for a domain I haven't even started working on.

I bought the domain a few months ago, put up some content and left it to age for while before I started backlinking.

I was checking my awstats today and thought I'd check it out. lo and behold.. I'm getting a hundred visitors a day. I'm number 4 for a very competitive term.

I sure hope the person keeps backlinking for me .. whoever he is

What would you do. He's linked from Ezinearticles as well .. should I contact him there and tell him to erm... stop?
#backlinking #free
  • They might be doing it intentionally. I will often put a few links from my sites out to high ranking related but non competitive sites to tell Google a bit more about what my sites' themes are.

If you don't link out to other sites, it's not natural.

I thought of that when I saw the first link from Hubpages.

However, I saw an Ezinearticle linking ONLY to me. If one wanted to make it look natural.. they'd atleast link to their sites too. None of the pages that link to me link to another website.

Weird.. but I'm happy.. probably an outsourcer who messed up the URL from their client.

The fun will end, my friend.

Someone is going to come back and correct those, I would presume.

You asked our opinion so, without getting into an ethical argument, let me ask you this:

If you had made a mistake and had linking campaigns going to another URL and wouldn't know unless someone told you, would YOU want them to tell you or would you want them to skim your work from you, all the while you wondering why you weren't getting any ROI?

If your answer is you'd want them to keep your work, then I suppose you keep the other persons work.

If your answer is you'd want them to tell you.. well, then.. tell the other person.

Life's not worth cheating someone. I mean, really. It's just money. And you will get more (and you'll get more by doing the right thing... I ASSURE you.)

    Warmly,

        Very simple.

There are two kind of persons:
Those who return to the cashier and say "you did a mistake with the change and gave me too much".
        Those who don't.

        Which one are you ?

    @digidoodles

You're right. I'll be contacting the person through Hubpages to notify them. Wouldn't want bad karma hanging over me.

And even worse... backlinks are disappearing en masse today. See the forum.

Just a thought - they're not old backlinks pointing to a domain you've recently bought are they? If that's the case then you could be benefitting from promotion that the previous owner did

Same thing happened to me, except I was the one who screwed up...

Sent a fair amount of links to the .com when I own the .net and it wasn't anything I could correct...

    ...lol...

The site listed in my sig has been gaining about 10K links per week (in Yahoo) for the last three weeks even though I have not done anything to create them.

I'm hoping that these are natural and I am seeing first page results for "web directories".
