Wordpress indexing slow?

I have many wordpress sites that rank high because of their keywords and have always ranked high from day one. On these sites I allow my recent posts to be on my home page.
Recently I started using a static page and let my new posts and fresh content fall into the background. I seen to be sitting on page 10 or 11 for three or more weeks now for two or three relatively small niches.
Is it because I added to static page that the rank is so low or is something else happening with wordpress and google that I don't know about?
