What Search Volume is Most Accurate

HI;

Take the search: jeep willys

Google Keyword tool says 9,900 Local and 135,000 global.

KeywordSpy says 301,000.

I could give dozens of examples where the difference is massive. This is an exact match in google, and KeywordSpy says that it is only for this keyword.

Who do you think is more accurate? Is there a better source to look at for information?

I have some keywords that Google will say has 300 searches and KeywordSpy says something like 6,000. If it really is 6,000 then it is worth going after, if it is closer to 300, then it's not.

Thanks.

    Hi Jamie,

    The Google reports actual search data, while other tools use an extrapolation based upon a small sampling of data. Google is the only source that has a large dataset so I would trust that more than other sources.

    Keep in mind that Google is reporting actual search data so it will occasionally include data from automated search queries. That means if you have a webmaster with OCD that checks rankings every 5 minutes those searches may be included in the data. This is a good reason to refrain from checking your own rankings too frequently, else you may attract hordes of competitors because your frequent searches have skewed the data.
