I have owned my own site since 2005 got a pretty good member base but that traffic came mostly from forum networking. The traffic I am looking for now is kind of diff... What I would like to do is bring more hits to a youtube page and build a site that will redirect traffic to my son's myspace music page

Thanx!

On my opinion the best to promote your site is using 2.0 properties, social bookmark, video directories and rss feeds.

    STOP!!!!!

The first thing someone starting out should do is not get a list of directories or backlinks or read a book on SEO. the first thing that EVERY new campaign should start out with is

    Keyword research.

Only when you know how your potential visitors are looking for info in your niche will you know what to target in SEO.

The best SEO for beginners would be to stop reading SEO secrets and start implementing. Use Platinum SEO or all in SEO plugin for qordpress, use digg, reddit, stumble and submit articles to ezines, goarticle, articlebase with your site links. Thats it and whenever you find any blog or interesting topic, read and comment using your website name and anchor text you want as the name.

Like Mike said, you've got to do the keyword research (assuming you haven't done so). As long as you get a right set of keywords to target, whatever the seo work you do will be worth while.

If you want to use Youtube to get traffic, again, you gotta find the right keywords. Now, the keyword research for Youtube is little different to conventional kwd research. For Youtube, you need to pick broader keywords rather than specific long-tail keyword phrases (instead of choosing "natural weight loss", pick "weight loss"). So in Youtube, pick more generic keywords with high search volume. If you target keywords with high search volume with your videos, you will have higher probability to get more viewers (= more traffic to your site).

To get some keyword ideas with search volume in Youtube, go to Youtube Keyword Tool then type in the most generic (root) keyword related to your niche in the search box.

    Good luck

Thanx Guys...this is very helpful! Michi thank you for the youtube tool link...I just tried it...i am going to implement some of the keywords I discovered in the title of the video. So do you guys suggest also getting keyword elite 2.0. Because ad words can be kind of costly I prefer to do good old SEO. Any one have a link to Platnium SEO not finding it in Clickbank. Thanx!

Search engine will become very suspicious if they see only links from blog comments or forum signatures coming to your site. Make sure your diversify if you plan to build links manually.

      Hi jaratvit,

Search engines are robots and I don't believe search engines have emotions. However, humans may "become very suspicious" when they see someone like you dig up hundreds of old dead threads and post short replies at the rate of 100+ per hour. It kinda makes you look like a spambot.

Here are two great sources for getting started with your SEO. One is for beginners and the other a more advanced one. Highly recommended and free. They are both from Google:

    SEO Starter Guide
    Google's SEO Report Card

    Hope this helps.

Vanessa Fox's Marketing in the Age of Google is a phenomenal book that focuses on the principles of SEO, i.e. how to design a site that works well for users and ranks high in search engines. Fox worked for Google so she tends to know what she's talking about and I've never seen her say anything untrue regarding search engine marketing or SEO in general.

A lot of what you'll learn on forums and blogs isn't exactly accurate. Everything in her book is factual.

    Hope that helps...
