Should you internal link?

If your article on your domain which is a blogsite is nested on a page which has a menu bar with "Home" on it, does it benefit to link your root / main site with keywords within the article?

I could understand linking your main page if your article page took up the entire page, with no further evidence pointing to your original site, but if it's already nested in a layout design that allows a visitor to easily reach your main page--is it still ideal for SEO purposes?

It's a good way to let the search engines know what your main page is about because you can use some anchor text that's more keyword-specific than 'home'.

Yes - it's still a link. Just think of those internal links the same way as you think of external links. They probably don't get the same SEO value, but they do have value so use them wisely.

      Ok, thanks for the feedback.

I have read some articles that talked about linking to all your internal pages, but my thought was if the Home page already links to the default page then it would be redundant.

I did read another article, though, that talked about how you should change the "Home" keyword to your keyword for the site you're aiming to target for. However, in my case I have several different keywords so it doesn't make sense to do that.

Although, it makes more sense now to using anchored keywords in addition to the Home to let the search engines know what it's all about.

The search engines probably flag "Home" as a noindex link anyway!

Yes! ALWAYS do a link back to your main domain within your article/post. Not only does it help you directly it benefits you if some content scraper comes along and snags your content, since it will grab your link as well.

Always do the link in the first paragraph or two of the post and always cut your feed so that if it is scraped it doesn't get all of your content.

What do you mean by "always cut your feed" ? The blog site I am building does have RSS feeds, for both the main site and comments.

What I meant by "cutting your feed" is to hit the "more" button after the first or second paragraph when composing the post so that not all of it appears on the first page of your blog -- to read the rest of the post someone will have to click on the "more" link.

This also speeds up the loading of your blog, especially if you write long posts.

    Hope that clarifies things.

Some of the advice given on this forum is priceless. =) I'm sure as I get more exposure to all the things involved, more of it will become natural.

Some things sound so basic you would think everyone knows it, and incorporates it, but so many things can be over looked as you try to get a grasp on everything involved.

I feel like I could probably write a book on Internet Marketing, and never finish it because everything is always changing and there seems like mountains of information to sift through.

Great tips and advice, thanks everyone!

Yes, you should always do internal linking, by using your keywords. Many times with a very well optimized website, you can get to the top of Google with just a few backlinks, for very competitive keywords.

I read that Google likes to see more pages than just your main page getting exposure so yes, definitely internally link. If only your main page is getting linked into and nothing with the other pages google spider might view that as meaning your page has a nice alluring front and nothing of quality further in.
