    Hey,

If you have Google Webmaster Tools, the number of links shown in there is more accurate than doing a link:url.

I tend to use Yahoo's Site explorer tool more. Google 'site explorer' and have a go at it. You can also try Open Site Explorer by SEOmoz

    Hope this helps.

Go to the main page of Yahoo and type link: followed by your domain name. Leave no spaces between the colon and the domain name. This will bring you to Yahoo Site Explorer, which will show you all the Inlinks or backlinks to your website or article. Or go to Yahoo Site Explorer directly located at Site Explorer - Yahoo! Site Explorer and enter the URL in the search bar.

Wish I knew a way to check all the backlinks. But to me it looks like all the tools (SEO SPyGlass etc) only display backlinks which gogole makes available

    example:
I have a site which in GWT has about 300 backlinks, I'm never been able to view the full and complete list of these backlinks in GWT, instead I always get a sample of the backlinks. For this site I get a list of about 145 backlinks, and that list contain the backlinks which I get when using SEO SpyGlass etc. So I think those tools asks Google for the list of backlinks, and Google returns what it want..... that is my theory

Well you can just simply type link:URL-of-the-website without spaces in Google search.

Like everyone already said, there are tons of other tools in finding websites that is linking to you. You may want to try it instead of doing it manually.

Not all tools only use Google as their reference. If you still not convince with it you can use Yahoo Site Explorer or Yahoo Site Explorer.

WebComp Analyst is what I prefer. For sites that ranks for specific keywords and publishes the results, it's a program by Jonathan leger.
