How important is keyword density?

I've done any analysis on my website and I was informed that my most of my pages had their keywords appearing less than 2% of the time.

Will that be a big issue?

If you have the word two or three times in the page it is ok. On page factors are not important these days. Specially keyword density is not a ranking factor.

Put more efforts in off page seo. 1 backlink is better than 1000 words.

Hi thanks alot, that put me in a great rest.

I was planning to continue optimizing my website, but its better for me to now move on to off page seo such as article marketing right?

Well dude, on-site optimization is also important, and content is also more important in my opinion. and yeah of course as you said backlinks are also very important.

And having too much keywords and repeating those in the content won't help you to get rank high. Just 2% is enough i guess. .

      Thank you

Yes on page factors must not be ignored. I never heard keyword density is a ranking factor.

For on page factors check this thread, http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...e-factors.html

Keyword Density is not used, ignore what you've been told... K.D went in the trash long time ago when people started to keyword stuff their pages... so just concentrate on LSI (in laymens terms), related keyword phrases.

      alright, thanks for ups head.

I'm using godaddy's analysis btw, the thing thats bothering me is they tell me i have 5 pages with broken internal links and 3 pages with with no external links.

What's funny is, I can't even find them. Is it a bug or some marketing gimmick? Thanks!

Try Google Webmaster Central. If your site is indexed, it will report broken links.

People are hitting the nail on the head. Make sure that you key words are present but site name, meta tags, headers, terms with hyperlinks can all play a part. All the little pieces add up to good SEO

i dont think keyword density matters now? it is more what you write, the sentences and the context.

Has Matt Cutts made a video on this topic? With or without hair? ;-)

From my experience what is important is not density but the sentence (or other context) in which the keyword appears. If, when searched, the keyword appears in a good sentence that makes sense and offers usable information it is more likely to attract clicks than if the keyword appears in a nonsense or empty context.

another tip, as well as LSI keywords, work on keyword proximity (how close is it to the beginning of sentence, how close is it to a hyper link that is a LSI keyword, how close it is to another related word) and you'll do just fine

LSI is a hugely important factor and has basically replaced keyword density. This is especially important if targeting a lonnnngtail keyword phrase (4 or 5 words). It isn't natural to keep using the same 4 or 5 word phrase over and over again. Pull out your thesaurus and mix it up again. Google will recognize the relevance and you will also get extra direct match hits on the different longtail combinations you are using.

2% Keyword density per page is ok I think. I also don't think that keyword density makes a big difference in search engine ranking. But this is also true that still on page optmization has importance so you must make your site search engine friendly. Importance should be given for keywords, content and quality backlinks.

It really depends on the niche and the SEO strength of your competition. I've got to #1 spots prior to off-page marketing of websites. My keyword selection and adhering to densities withing the copy made site reach new levels.

    For no other reason than...

    "Because it's there"

I mention my keyword 3 times regardless of length of article.

    I underline the first
    I bold the second
    I italicise the third

As I said, for no real reason but it doesn't hurt.

Young Lozza hit the nail on the head though.

Loz has pretty much nailed it in the head with both his posts. Couldn't have explained it better myself. After all... Loz did teach me alot about SEO when I first started out.

like said keyword density isn't that important anymore on scoring. Also a lot of the old school seo onsite stuff doesn't have as big of effect as once did. All my seo now for myself and clients focuses on offsite optimization which pulls incredible results when done right.

I've been reading up on SEO and keyword density for the SEO Network site, and they still claim 3 to 5 percent is what you should have in keyword density. Check out a new plugin called Scribe, works great. It will analysis your blog for readability, keyword density, and a host of other SEO services, so you can do the repairs before you actually post.

Just my 2 cents worth. Have a great day.

I would say put each phrase once in the title, once in the description tag, once in the heading of the page and 2-3 times in the body text of the page. I have never worried about the keyword density. It is far more important that the page reads well to human visitors.

Keyword density is a nonsense. Just write relevant content that uses the main keyword terms and related terms, then you have covered the subject without resorting to mentioning the exact same term again, without mentioning the exact same term again, without mentioning the exact same term again....
