Keyword or no keyword that is the question

Hi everyone
can someone tell me please how many keywords your supposed to use in the keyword box? some tell me 3 or 4 and some tell me to fill it up Ive got a few sites 5 in fact that I submitted last week and nothing is happening, If the answer 3 or 4 can I pull the site down take some keywords off and re-submit, help plz, also how many keywords do you use as tags
