IPTC data in images

I read a very good guide to seo for photographers and there was a suggestion in there that had come via google that IPTC data was likely to become more valuable in the future as a tool for the search engines.
I have added IPTC data (description, keywords, title etc) to the jpeg images that are on my webpages.
However:
1) My main photo galleries are flash galleries. Does anyone know if I should still add the IPTC data to the images behind the flash gallery or will the flash gallery prevent these being detected/read?
2) Is there any value in attaching hidden data to gif images? There are quite a few on each page that make up my website design structure and I'm wondering if I should put some data behind them? Maybe it's only worth doing on jpegs?
