Yahoo seems on its last legs lately with YPN shutting down now. For those of you that never use it, YPN is Yahoo Publishing Network, a clone of sadsense that was less strict and more easy to use. It paid twice the price of sadsense on average. This was the only real competitor as I do not consider sadbrite in the running.

Not all publishers will be hit hard as many will no doubt start to promote products on their web pages. This is more work, but you also get more money. It is sad to see YPN go. Yahoo is getting rid of more and more of what made them an XLent company.

Yahoo is running itself into the ground ... or Google running over them.

Give it a few more years and you'll see Yahoo declining more and more until it finally seized its operation.

Won't be long for sure. Big G is already watching!

The problem with YPN is that when people wanted to jump on board they were restricting who they would accept.

There was a huge buzz about it but they wouldn't accept anyone outside of the US, then they said it would be widely available "soon"... i don't know if it was ever available as with most people i lost interest in them.

In this business whether you are a big business or 1 guy with 1 website you usually only have a very short window of opportunity... they blew it.

        Absolutely.
The other problem is it strengthens Google's monopoly. I think it will be a very long time before anyone will give Google something to worry about, but the more competition they have, the more likelihood they will start having to address their diabolical customer service and stop banning accounts on a hair trigger - and actually tell customers what their TOS really means.

Their put up or shut up attitude is the only thing that might harm them in the long term, but that won't change while they have such a monopoly.

Do you use BING search? I know I sure don't and only use yahoo search to find my sites in the rankings.

If BING spent the millions they did on television advertising online, things might be a bit different...

Bing sure advertises a lot on television at least in the States.
but I don't hear much positive chatter regarding how effective
    their advertising is actually working.

Back in 2009, yahoo and Bing came to a deal where Microsoft would handle the advertising network and YPN would be non-existent. This advert. network will cover both Bing and yahoo, and will function like adwords/adsense, but obviously not as streamlined (yet).

Bing! Yahoo, Microsoft exchange vows for search and ads

    Hope this helps.

I would like to see a happy competitor to AdSense for content sites but it doesn't seem there are any great solutions out there.

Yahoo is going to be dead soon, so many of their great features have been gone, Googles copied a few of them already, seems like Google is going to be the #1 search engine, without Yahoo, no other search engine can even attempt to compete with Google.

Lots of people still use Yahoo regardless of what you all think.

Out of the past 20 people I've seen on their comp at least 18 of them used Yahoo.

It did surprise me but it also showed me that Yahoo still is a player.

I still use them too because I know other people do and it's good to keep on top of the game
