how to customize adsense ad format

adsense provides some ad formats that allow to change color, font, etc. but not so much about the size/dimension.

Is there a way to customize the dimension?

Yeah it's easy to do,,,,,,but it violates the Terms and Conditions section 2. Your not allowed to edit any of the java script you are provided with.

I've seen many big sites using a dimension that is not one of the ad formats adsense lists. Are they violating the T&C, or did they get a nod from google?

  According to the Terms, you can only change it IF you get written permission from Google to do so.
  
  So if they did this and are legit, Yes, they got the nod from Google.
