Ranking fluctuation after backlinking

Hey guys,
Im after your experience of what happens with your rankings after you build backlinks, but in very specific manners.
Here is what I have noted:-
(1) - You get an initial rankings boost immediately after building backlinks, but just a small increase after all if you got big immediate movements, it would be easy to dominate the SERPS.
(2) - After the backlinks have been picked up in Google webmasters, I tend to then get another small boost
(3) - Finally around 2 weeks after registering in webmaster tools, I get a big boost 2 weeks after... I have also tied this into that the period when your new links can be found in the 'link:' operator.... I have tested this point a few times!!!
