Advice needed about keyword use please

Hi everyone. I need some advice about using keywords please.

My site is optimized and Ive been writing all of my articles and blogs around my keyword. Ive been careful and only included my keyword in my article titles and approx 1% of my article body to avoid spamming but I was hoping I would have had better results than I have had so far.

Ive been doing this for a couple of months. Do I just need to be more patient and keep going or is this the wrong tactic? Im floating around page 2 with Yahoo but Google and Bing are showing no interest.

My plan was to get a decent page rank for my keyword phrase and then start targeting another keyword phrase and so on.

Thanks!

Chris

How competitive is your word? Have you tried adding other related keywords?

Are you saying that all your articles are targeting the same keyword or just one article per keyword? Like redflea says, the competitive nature of the keyword is certainly a factor but also what is your on page SEO like with regard to Title and description tags?

Where are your backlinks coming from and what anchor text are you using? You need to ensure that you let Google know exactly what your article is about and the votes from some good backlinks and creating a social buzz will get you some ranking for the keywords you target.

        Thanks for your replies guys!

My keyword phrase is competitive but not ultra competitive. My homepage SEO is good.

Yes I have been writing all of my articles around my homepage keyword phrase but now I plan to target some less competitive keyword phrases and use my homepage keyword in my resource box only.

        Regards,

        Chris

Here are some thoughts on Keywords: Focus on only a few keywords and you'll get more links per each keyword. This concept of link equity should lead to better rankings. Don't target the obvious keywords...they are too competitive and will take longer to get better rankings. Is there a lot of competition for your phrase already in page titles/descriptions? If so work to build back links using the keyword phrase as your anchor text.
