Link buying/selling idea

Hello,

Doing some link buying research today and this idea came to me...

A marketplace site for link buying/selling. Only everything is done with virtual currency so no real money is involved.

You put your website on the market and decide on a price (I do an independent appraisal and feature it along your desired price to keep things fair).

Once someone buys you get credited and they get debited. Now you can go ahead and buy some links yourself.

The obvious benefit is there's no middle man to take 50% of the link's price so links are more affordable, plus there's less hassle since there's no money involved. And it's way better than reciprocal link exchange.

What do you guys think?

Sorry to burst your bubble but there are many companies online already doing this...

Maybe Tom meant the usual reciprocal link exchanges... I have sent him a PM hopefully he will come back and give some examples... or maybe someone else has some.

My link building for my sites consist almost exclusively of something similar. I build one-way links back to my sites in an automated fashion every day. I would recommend staying away from reciprocal links though.

Essentially, you mean something like Link Exchange from SSES

The problem is that when you provide a place to buy and sell links, the links become practically worthless mostly due to the fact it bypasses all the traditional aspects of link building.

It's a recipe for disaster, as while it'd be great to set up a link sharing community, it'd be impossible to keep the credibility going - it'd only be abused The only ones I see nowadays are the ones who don't care where their traffic comes from.

The only way to do it would be to operate as a private 'service' - your customers list on a private 'directory' and you facilitate the links on their behalf, but even then the problem is that because your providing a shortcut, your customers more likely than not would be unscrupulous grey hat bar stools.
