Local SEO - any different than IM SEO?

So i've gotten pretty good at SEO for my own stuff, in my own opinion at least. :-)

I'm doing a site for a friend now, and while i've got him ranked on a few keywords - according to the competition, keywords that I should normally be able to DOMINATE using angela's links and a few other methods - I'm not getting any decent results....

For example: Do a local search for 'your city' plumber- no yahoo answers, no digg, no web 2.0 sites - etc....

However, google "how to do this and that" and the first 10 pages are web 2.0, digg, ezine - etc.

Any ideas/advise for Local Business SEO?

Thanks!
Jeff

The site i'm working on: OC Massage Therapy

I have found that there is more extrapolation and even some guess work to target the amount of keyword data and traffic for a specific geographical area. I really don't know why you cant do keyword research on Google yet that targets a specific area - at least smaller than a country.

Well, I"m SEO'ing the heck out of it for local terms, LOL - I even use Micro Niche Finder to search for phrases with "orange county" and "massage therapy" for example.

Perhaps I just need to be more patient, I only started the SEO a few days ago - LOL, i'm just used to seeing quicker results with the IM stuff and Web 2.0 stuff...

Any offline warriors have any (further) feedback?

      Thanks

Try adding yourself to local directories that reference the town or area in question. I take it you've done the basics such as H1 tags, metadescription, making sure the keywords appear in the text on the page in question etc?
