I saw this today:

Buy URL's for the maximum of 10 years when you purchase them. One of the many factors Google considers is how long your domain is going to be around.

can anyone verify?

thanks!

That smells like total BS to me

Some older domains enjoy SEO advantage but I see no evidence for the length of domain registration being a factor in rankings or otherwise.

It's a rumor that's been going around recently, but I haven't seen any evidence that the expiration date of a domain affects SERPs.

The domain age is definitely a factor but the length of the registration has a very minimal effect on the ranking.

According to a patent Google was awarded,

"Certain signals may be used to distinguish between illegitimate and legitimate domains. For example, domains can be renewed up to a period of 10 years. Valuable (legitimate) domains are often paid for several years in advance, while doorway (illegitimate) domains rarely are used for more than a year. Therefore, the date when a domain expires in the future can be used as a factor in predicting the legitimacy of a domain and, thus, the documents associated therewith." I read this to mean that they do care about the quality of websites and will make an effort to determine whether or not each is a "legitimate" (or valuable) site or not ... that domain registration length is a considered factor.

Do not get between a wombat and a chocolate biscuit; you will regret it dearly!
