Hey Guys!

I am having troubles with my site, Google is not indexing the title and description properly, upon googling my site now it shows:

- Cached - Similar

This just changed recently after I started using constant contact as a email service(not sure this is why). Keep in mind it was indexed fine and showing up fine in Google about a week ago and still shows up fine in yahoo. Also the other pages within the site show up fine in Google it just seems to be the homepage having issues.

Anyone know whats going on? It is not even showing a description and what is showing is not even in my title or meta.

Thanks;

Jesse

And that is for the homepage in Google? What the hell... I even made sure I was logged out of my google account. That is very strange? Do you think I just checked at a time in which Google was playing around with stuff?

It is still showing like this for me:

Maybe there is just problem with your browser because Google will just give the same info to each query.

Jesse, I just typed in Mma Clothing Trends as a search term in Google and the results are as you have stated.

    Two things...

(1). Check your Privacy Settings, you may have it set to block search engines, but allow normal visitors.

(2). Check your robots.txt file to make sure that you are not prohibiting search engines in any shape form or fashion.

It's got to be one or the other.

Thanks Crew Chief! I think you may be on to something. About a week ago I changed my privacy settings within my firefox to not store browser history. I then changed it back about an hour after doing this. So this would have something to do with google not indexing my site properly?

Actually I just checked and I did not even have a robots.txt file, I had a sitemap though. I know my site was properly indexed by google for years(and it appears all the other pages within the site are still indexed and showing properly in the search). I have just added a robots.txt file though as below:

    User-agent: *
    Disallow:
Do you think this robots.txt is sufficient?

Also do you see anything else that could be problematic

    Thanks alot!

    Easy Cowboy,

GeorgeR already checked and I checked as well and we both received the same results.

    You're site is fine.

You're local data center probably doesn't have the latest information.

He was referring to wordpress settings. Not firefox.

    Hi there

Naaa god knows what youve done, but your site wont validate so that means it wont get indexed properly go here and try it The W3C Markup Validation Service

Think its something to do with that code in your header, those horrible popups why youve put that in there ill never know, only gonna put people off using ur site. Theres an error on the code somewhere anyhow.

My advice is to get rid of that code and recheck it, once your site validates you should be ok to get indexed properly.

Okay I have removed the popup and then used the markup validation tool once again. It is now showing errors with line 477 which is a drop down menu script from dynamic drive ( which I can not get rid of). Is there any solution or in this case should I just forget about validating the html?

    Thanks;

I just checked it again and now I'm getting the same results as George. Maybe it was something you did... maybe it was the different data centers... maybe it was a temporary glitch... maybe there is a conspiracy

Any way, check your results now.

As far as validating, I concur with usearchme2.

As far as your robots.txt file, each site is different; it just depends on what pages YOU want to exclude search engines from crawling. Your file is set up based on your decision to say, "There is no need for my privacy policy to be crawled, etc.) That's just an example

      • Having validation errors on a page VERY, VERY rarely affects it getting indexed. Only if the error is so hiddeous that it prevents crawling would an error have any affect on your page being indexed. Google and the other search engines have been indexing pages that don't validate for more than a decade.

Validation, while a good practice, is NOT a requirement for being indexed. The engines will generally index whatever HTML gets returned when they request a particular URL. They are not turning around, validating your HTML/CSS and then rejecting it if it doesn't validate. Sorry, but that just doesn't happen. 99.999% of all web sites on the web have validation issues. Doing so would not only be a costly waste of the search engines' resources, but it would eliminate almost every page from their index.

Thanks guys! Yeah I was not used to seeing the search results like I seen them so I was like what the hell is going on. Anyways I have hit the thank you button for you all

Now the dilemma I face would be I changed my meta tags (title and description) because of this and I heard google don't like when sites do that and my site mite bottom out a bit because of this?

Or should I just carry about and check time to time
