Wordpress Blog PR Question

I have a friend that knows nothing about SEO and has a 2 month old wordpress blog that he updates abt twice a day (1000 word posts on average). In two months, his blog went from a PR - to PR 4 because of the keyword-tag backlinks from wordpress alone.
Has anyone else that uses wordpress experienced such a quick jump in PR without doing any backlinking of their own?
