Is there much value in getting listed in DMOZ?

    No We can add a link for free in DMOZ.. But it takes a lot of time to get approved

    well alot of people say yes. To really find someone who has done some serious testing to confirm this is difficult.

    All I can say is google uses dmoz as their directory service so they like it themselves.


    I will summarize it by saying go for it but don't waste alot of time with it.

    It can't hurt. It is free. Just submit your link there and to as many other directories as you can. As for wasting a lot of time, I find that submitting a link to a directory is actually pretty quick.

    It helps, but it's almost impossible to get listed these days so don't count on it happening.

    I submit my site to a bunch of directories, that is what they are for after all. Many never get through because the site owner might have abandoned the site or whatever. But some always do get through.

    DMOZ is nothing more than a good link to have. There are a zillion other ways to get a good link. You won't get number one in Google if you get listed and the world will not end if you don't get listed.

    Submit once to the one best category and get on with your life. After that anything you try to do to get listed (eg resubmit) is likely to be counterproductive.

    Yes, obviously, if one site can be indexed by DMOZ, it will gain a better SERP in Google and other search engines. However, it ususally needs much time to get your site approved into the database of DMOZ.

    no - there is not value for it.

    not for pr and not for poistions in google`s 1st page.

    i have a site listed at dmoz and i see to change.

    however, there are lots of directories that take the database from DMOZ and basically clone all the directory on other websites and servers. so if you are listed at dmoz sooner or very very later those directories will catch your link and you will get one way back link from it.

    I don't know why so many people are saying not to waste your time. It takes like a minute to submit your site so you aren't really wasting any time. You might as well give it a shot. Chances of getting in are slim to none but you never know, it might happen. If you do get in you are getting a strong link to your site. It's not going to make or break you but it will help a bit if you do get in, and it's free.

    I say go for it!

    Just don't sit around waiting or anything like that. Submit and then go on with your life. If you get in that's great. If you don't, oh well.

    Submit your site to DMOZ and forget it. Sometimes it gets approved in a few months... others wait years and never get approved.

    If you can get listed, it is a nice link from a trusted source. But I would not waste anymore time than it takes to submit the request.

    If you have the cash, submitting to Yahoo!, BOTW, and Business.com's paid directories are generally worth it (not just because these are considered valid non-paid backlinks by Google, but also because they can actually drive quite a bit of traffic.)

    You possibly got banned for spamming!!! How do you think any directory (not just DMOZ) should treat those who can not follow the guidelines they agree to when they suggest a site? Why did you submit more than once? Submitting more than once, just overwrites the previous submission with the new date. If the pool of suggested sites is sorted by date, you just screwed your chances of being reviewed. If you submit too many times, then a ban for spamming is one option DMOZ has.

    There is NEVER a need to submit more than once. Doing so will only disadvantage you.
