Ex-Owner Of Domain Was Banned On Google And Google Won't Index Me

I was getting kind of worried when my site hasn't been indexed in Google for well over a month. I have 100+ sites and this is the only one that I have trouble with. I decided to check the history of this brand new domain to see if it has a record in the past. It appears that somebody owned it for about 7 years and then let it expired (maybe he got fed up with the de-index). I bought the domain early April, and in the history, it shows that the domain was no longer owned by anyone a few days before I registered it.

I submitted a request for reconsideration and explained to Google that I believe the old owner of domain was banned in the past and that I bought this domain brand new.

I received a notice that my reconsideration has been processed 2 days ago. I checked bunch of forums and they all say if they were to accept my reconsideration, my site would have been indexed like no later than a few hours.

If you think it is the content then no, I DO provide value to help users get what they need.

I've heard of this happening before...

    Just buy another domain?

I have purchased about 10 of these penalized domains over the past 3 years. I've only had one get reindexed. I've actually had better luck getting expiring and resold domains reindexed than penalized domains that have been deleted and available for 'new' purchase. Now, when I'm buying 'new' domains, I always make sure to only buy 'virgin' domains.

Try the reconsideration request again if you really want to keep the domain. Make it very clear that you bought the domain new from GoDaddy, Namecheap or whoever and that you have absolutely no relationship to the previous owner. Also make sure that your content and your external links are squeaky clean. Otherwise, buy another domain, making sure it's never been registered before.

I just had this same exact problem. If your keyword url is important, than hang on and see if they reconsider it....if not, simply buy a new domain and throw all the content on there.

Just to recheck and clarify, when you go to Google and type in:

      site:mydomainname.com

Not one single solitary page of your site shows up?

Unfortunately, this is a tough one...

One one hand, I direct your attention to the time when BMW got caught red handed committing blatant Bee-Lack-Hat tactics. If you recall, as gross as their infractions were, Matt Cutts himself stated that they were indeed re-indexed after they removed the doorway pages, redirects, etc., then apologized to G and politely requested to be re-indexed.

On the other hand, Matt Cutts said at PubCon, that one should avoid buying banned domains. He went on to use some analogy about how those domains start underwater or underground, whereas a clean domain starts on top.

So, you are in sort of a conundrum... Do you pursue or not?

My personal belief is, sometimes you have to grind your way to the championship. Like the New Orleans Saints did. (It took a lot for me to say that because the Colts are my team)

          But I digress...

If you think the domain is worth it, file another reconsideration and just be polite at ALL times. But prior to doing that, I would:

(a). Go over the site and remove ALL advertising
(b). Confirm that your site meets ALL of Google's TOS, Content, SEO, etc.
(c). If you've got Javascript, pop ups, pop unders or peel aways, I'd suggest temporarily removing them ALL. Your site needs to be pristine
(d). Make sure you have a privacy notice, contact page, disclaimer, the standard legal stuff
(e). Layout out your case/plea in a systematic fashion and present it when you re-apply for the consideration.

There's no guarantee this will work, but it'll give you a better fighting chance.

As a last resort, I'd go Matts' blog and search like H-E-L-L to find a thread that he's recently started that is related to the subject or closely related to the subject of being banned and engage him DIRECTLY! Matt Cutts: Gadgets, Google, and SEO

Had the same problem once. Also filed for reinclusion. Forget it.

Got a new domain which was indexed within 2 hrs. Trying to get a penalized domain re-indexed is wasted time.

Thanks for the replies guys. The keyword is a two word domain that I feel is very important. I know Google never plays fair but they are taking this to a whole new level...

  • Once your reconsideration request has been processed, if the lift the ban it doesn't mean they are going to index your in hours, days or weeks. At that point your site is like every other new site out there. You are at the whims of Google as to when THEY think it's convenient for them to come check out your site.

Start building links to your site if you haven't already. Target link placements on pages that your KNOW are already indexed at Google.

I will definitely be like the Saints and take the challenge to get this domain indexed oh and removing all ads would be a great idea.

I also agree with Social-Media-Marketing that it might just be a matter of waiting for Googlebot to crawl backlinks to my site. I will update this thread when anything changes!

Just get another domain, in my experience I would say that it is highly unlikely google will re-instate the domain any time soon

The thing is how do you know the domain is banned before you buy it? Is there a way to check?
