Rock In The Road - Keywords?????

I am finally back in action or at least getting prepared to get in action. My goal is to make at least $2000 a month. I know almost exactly how I am going to go about it. I will be using adsense, clickbank, and a few cpa networks. I have the plan set out and everything. The only problem that continues to haunt me is "choosing the right keywords and getting sites to number 1 position". What I mean by choosing the right keywords is a keyword I can easily rank for without building thousands of links to the site. I have chosen plenty of keywords in the past to try to rank for and none of them in the number 1 spot except for one that doesn't bring any traffic. Can anyone advise me on what I should do to avoid choosing bad keywords and a way I can rank for keywords. You can even suggest a product or ebook as long as it works. Thanks

I suggest to watch the training videos on the market samurai blog here

    Noble Samurai D?j?

    specifically the keyword research ones

then download the market samurai software.

The demo is fully functional, but even when it runs out you still have access to keyword tool.

This will allow you to do your keyword research filter them down to a level that will tell which keywords have the least competition, but still a viable amount of traffic.

I would say this is a fairly common problem. What are you doing currently when researching keywords (aside from using Market Samurai)?

Are you focusing on long-tail keywords?

Are you trying to market to a niche or a broader market?

If you do a quick search on the forums on "keyword research" I am sure you will find more than enough help!

Well it depends on what I'm promoting. For example, for a clickbank product I would look up keywords related to the product and try to go for long tail keywords 3 or more words. I start by using google adwords tool. I use exact match and I look at global and local results. I pick the keywords that get 1000+ searches a month or more. After getting a few keywords, I input them into Google and find out how many "competing pages" it has. Less than 20,000 is a go for me. I also check front page competition and see if there are web 2.0 sites and such on the first page which is a good sign also. I check backlinks, pr and age of the sites using seo for firefox plugin. That's basically what I do. I rarely do broad niches and I rarely use buying keywords also. Hard to do kindof with Clickbank products.

One last thing is when I read the different topics here on the forum about keyword research, i get confused because everyone does it a little different. Some say forget competing pages and only judge first page competition and some use competing pages figure....

Try typing in a common keyword in the search engines and looking at the top ten sites that come up. Go through the info on the page typing in different words into the keyword tool as you read them to see what keywords are searched for often but with low competition.
