tackling ads

I've been in the webmaster game for years and I just can't seem to get a handle on ad revenue.

I even have a website that gets 6000UVs a month and only brings in about $20-25 a month. At least I'm making money, yeah, but I just feel it should still be bringing in more.

Any got any suggestions? Like... ad placement suggestions? What works for you?
