Article Marketing = sandbox?

I haven't done any article marketing as yet but have some concerns over a) its effectiveness, and b) if it will put you in the sandbox.

Will article marketing risk your aged domains existing rankings? Does Google not detect a footprint if you have loads of links all from article directories?

Someone please enlighten me.

    As far as I understand, article marketing in SEO perspective means to have backlinks from that articles. There are so many services in here providing article networks where you can spread your articles in their networks. I also use some of their service. So far I don't see any problem.

    About sandbox thing, well I always believe that google will not punish someone based on the reason that someone can do it for him. If having huge links from article directories can make my competitor punished by google I will certainly do a lot of article directories submission for my competitor

        I think the sandbox is just about too many links too fast to a new site in general, not just article marketing. But you know from my experience if there is a sandbox for too many links too fast the bar is HIGH. I'm talking at least 1,000's of links a day to a new site before Google says, "wait a minute this may not be right" And even then they will probably not punish you for very long or else they will risk not ranking the next twitter if it is standard procedure.

    In SEO Article marketing is an amazing way to market your product/service on the web. Trying to drive targeted traffic to your website has become harder than ever, but article marketing is a way to make this task a bit less difficult for you. Without traffic, you have no Internet business and I do not think that it is similar to the Sandbox. As sandbox is used as filter in the web site.

    It depends on the following typically:

    1) What is your existing link building velocity
    2) What is the average link building velocity of your top 20 competitors in the SERPS
    3) How well have you researched your keywords selected for anchor text
    4) How well have you averaged your selected URLS for backlinks and how well have you mixed the anchor text
    5) How many C-Class Ip domains are currently linking to not only your homepage but internal pages, What is the average for the top 10 in the serps for those particular keywords ?
    6) You wont get put into the "sandbox" but you will have some up and downs in the serps if you dont use your head.

      I've heard several people talk about link velocity recently and I can see how a sudden change in this measure could alert Google. So how about using something like UAW and having it drip feed 1 article per day to the article directories? Then I could also use something like Bookmarking Demon to do a little social bookmarking too. Thoughts? Too slow? Too fast?

    You won't get sandboxed from Article Marketing, I'm willing to bet on it, I've used and use massive article marketing campaigns for SEO and I've never been sandboxed.

    The effectiveness of article marketing for SEO is another topic. I consider it basic SEO, but there's also the added benefit of syndication, though it's not that easy to get syndicated from EzineArticles. ArticlesBase is a feeder for many auto-blogs, which may help somewhat.

    There's definitely diminishing returns from article marketing though. At some point, 1000 more links from article directories won't matter.

    I'd say go for it, article marketing is fast and easy if you have a spinner and a good submitter.

    It's one of the easiest ways to get backlinks for your backlinks as well.

      Too slow, having your article in UAW drip feed to 50 article sites a day is recommended, 1 site a day is laughable.

      Hi Jon,

      First let me say that according to Google, there is no "Sandbox". There is an effect that may have you feeling like you have been put into a sandbox that has been dubbed "The Sandbox Effect".

      This so called "Sandbox Effect" is simply the part of Google's algorithm that ranks web pages, that have stood the test of time, higher just because they have been around longer. It applies equally to all new pages, there is nothing that you do to cause this effect and nothing you can do to avoid it.

      There are two other things to actually be concerned with:
      1. Your website may be de-indexed if you violate Google's Webmaster Guidelines. So do not do it!
      2. Backlinks from questionable sources may be devalued. Meaning you are not penalized, however those devalued links will not help you rank. This may feel like a penalty, but it is an indirect effect, the devaluing is done to the pages that are linking to yours, not your own page directly. So high quality links will still help your rankings even after the spam links are devalued. Create meritorious links to avoid having your rank sink due to backlink devaluation.

      If an article is both unique and useful content then you should have nothing to be concerned over. However, if your article is totally self-serving then you may have difficulty getting it accepted as well as having the backlink value removed by Google's anti-spamdexing team.

    I doubt any of us, unless we started using literally every article marketing source we could find, would get sandboxed from article marketing alone.

    Not sure I buy the link velocity stuff. I haven't seen anyone take the time to put a real site into the frying pan so to speak. Many of my competitors no longer build any links at all, yet they continue to be top 5 in rankings. To me, that says link velocity is just a professional SEO trying to keep his check coming in every month.
