    Hi Waqas,

I find it hard to believe you have been here since 2008 but dont know the effects backlinking could have (short term) on your site.

Do a search for google dancing or the mythical sandbox effect after backlinking.

Keep building back link and you will soon regain your position or even get higher. A six month old site is still new and can barely be stable on the SERP. On the other side, ensure you are using a variety of ways to build links to your site. The search engines monitor things like the number of IPs linking to your site.

John is right. Plus, there are the occasional glitches that will seem like they negatively effect your site for a few days, but end up being nothing.

Why would you assume ur site down because of your backlinks ??? There are many reasons why this would happen

As has been pointed out, it can be anything, including Google dance. But closer to home, Google has just recently implemented a new "quality update," now known as the MayDay update, which specifically updates long-tail rankings. Google has just acknowledged it. Take a look at this Matt Cutts video:

A rather detailed discussion of it can be found here:

OK, if you are not coming up for your domain name, that very clearly suggests a Google penalty. See if your pages are still indexed. To find this out, copy a URL and then type into Google:
      site:example.com
(without spaces, and replace "example.com" with your domain).

If your pages are indexed, you should be able to see them in the search results, but if your pages do not show up it means they have been dropped from the index (penalty).

Are you doing anything fishy on your site? Cloaking, meta refresh redirects? Is your content original? If you have copied it from another site, that is a very likely reason for what you are seeing.

Another possibility is that someone has scraped your content.

Try searching for 5-6 word exact phrases (in quotation marks). Are your pages showing up? Are any other websites showing up?

Please do these tests and post the results here, and we'll take it from there. As has been suggested, you can also post your domain name, unless you prefer not to.

It doesn't have to be a front page SERP site to have been hit by the Mayday Update. I have new sites that were on page 195 which are now on page 595. The google dance almost always happens to new sites within the first 4 to 6 weeks not usually to sites 6 months old. You have been hit by the Mayday my friend and the only way now to bring it up is back linking. Looks like the days of spam sites are coming back if all that really matters is the number of back links you have is what determines your SERP position...huh? I have seen a number of my high quality, high original content, white hat sites now replaced with pure junk that has more back links than I..... Google has lost their power drunk mind!

What...you don't agree? I've been online marketing since 1996 and I know more ethical marketers than the other way around and can say unequivocally that way more ethical marketers with sites less than 6 months old were hit..and hit harder than some of my more black hat "friends". If your research and findings over the last 6 weeks indicate something different...I'm all ears.

Mmmm, guys, the original poster has a specific problem and probably isn't looking for a philosophical discussion about Google and evil (no pub intended). Perhaps a new thread for that? (But on the subject of whitehat marketing, it is still very effective but wholly depends on whether you can provide by far the best content in your niche and go viral with it. Without it, no luck.)

    Yes

    - your link profile
    - how current they are and value
    - whether you are proving any new content
    - site relevant content

    Have a think about them......
