When using an adsense code, what's the difference between "ca-pub" and just plain "pub"?

Which should I use when adding Adsense to a blog, for example?

Thanks,
Terry

Use what google generates in the code when you build an ad and you won't go wrong.

Thanks, Kay, but I must not be asking correctly.

I've got a blog/site that generates adsense ads based on the theme itself, and the adsense code which I manually put in through my cpanel "file manager". I could put in "ca-pub-12345", or "pub-12345", or "mickeymouse", and it would create it in the adsense source code of the blog.

If I go to my "Account Settings" for my Adsense account, it shows the "ca-pub-...", but I notice that some folks -- and an ebook I read -- shows just the "pub-...".

          Sorry -

I believe all publisher id's when listed by google on your adsense acct page have the ca in front of them. However, when ad scripts are generated on the google site, they use pub- .

I seem to recall reading somewhere that using either will work - but as we know which one google uses in generating scripts, I'd use the pub- ...

Just went to Adsense Help - and found a reference "use the publisher id that shows on top right of your screen when you log into your adsense account." On mine at least, it does not show ca-
