I submitted a few URL's 2 weeks ago and they still havent been approved. Anyone else running into the problem. I am a member of yahoo directory submitting but still use Dmoz to get backlinks.

Just wondering if anyone knows why its taking so long to get urls approved lately I guess.

DMOZ??? What the heck is that?

All kidding aside, I haven't submitted anything to them since I submitted my
softcore porn site as an AOL member on 6/21/97. Yeah, that's when I first
hit the Internet...3 years before I lost my last job.

Boy, talk about a failed venture.

That was long before I ever even thought about being an Internet marketer.

OMG, I just realized that in 2 days, I'll be on the Internet 13 years.

    Wow...time flies.

I've never known DMOZ to approve anything quickly. In fact, I've never had anything approved at all and I have submitted some better quality sites than are currently sitting in DMOZ.

I haven't bothered with them in years.

From what I can tell there are only 2 ways to get listed at DMOZ.

    1) Work for DMOZ
    2) Have a very close friend work for DMOZ

I have only had one site approved for DMOZ. It was my very first one and I submitted in 96 or 97. Of course they stuck it in the wrong category. Even then it took like a month to get approved.
I've tried several sites since then but they never have been approved so I gave up.

Does anyone even get approved at DMOZ anymore?

If you have a little extra time it wouldn't hurt to submit your site, but I'd pretty much forget about it after that. Check back every few years or so

Forget about DMOZ, the headache is not worth it, rather buy yourself a lotto ticket you have a better chance.

I still do it. It only takes 30 seconds and adds a little perceived value when flipping sites if nothing else.

Where did you guys get your understanding of DMOZ from???

It not possible to "submit" a site to DMOZ and expect some sort of listing service.

DMOZ is building a directory of sites. To help an editor find new sites, DMOZ allows members of the public to suggest a site ... that is all! The editor may or may not decide to use what the public suggests or not and go and use other sources.

If an editor wants to spend their time more productively, they avoid the cesspool of crap that the public suggests and use other sources to find sites to add.

Working this way, they add between 3000 and 6000 sites a month - making it the fastest growing directory on the web.

In all honesty, I can not see any of the sites listed in your signature getting listed if that are what you submitted.

How does taking 30 seconds to suggest a site give you a headache?

Then why waste anyone's time taking submissions you have no intention of going through in the first place?

Because DMOZ does not take "submissions" ... it simply allows the public to suggest websites that may help the editors do their jobs (more often than not, the suggestion do not help as so much unlistable stuff gets suggested)

Most editors do at least browse the pool of suggested sites looking for gems that stand out and other editors use nothing but the pool of suggested sites. (see the other current thread on DMOZ in which I suggested how to stand out in the pool).

DMOZ is useful to help our sites gain a better ranking in search engines. Of course, I just find that it is really difficult to get my site approved there.

In all honesty, if you are talking about the sites in your signature, I can not see any of them getting listed, mostly due to lack of unique content that would add value to the category.
