From First Page of Google To Know Where in Site!

Hey everyone,

I've been working on a site with a keyword rich domain name and I was ranked for the keyword phrase on the first page of Google. It would go from 11 to 10 usually. Then, it started to rise a little. I got it up to 7, then 6 and was getting excited (because I really wasn't seeing too much traffic from it at 10...)

Well, I started posting on blogs, and I posted on one blog that had the Top Commentators plugin installed, and I got one of the spots. So then I got way more backlinks because it became a site wide link. I had about 150 more links in Yahoo! Site Explorer.

As you can guess from this post's title... no more rankings.

Was it because all those links showed up so fast or is it just the mystery of Google?

Hey, your subject line could use some spell checking!

You're a new site? You will bounce back, just be patient. What you are describing is typical behavior for new sites, which move up and down the search results quite a bit. Eventually once you have built enough links they will stabilize you.

I agree with Philip. You're seeing the QDF (Query Deserves Freshness) part of the Google algorithm in action. This means new content typically gets a temporary boost then it drops back down shortly thereafter. Just keep getting links and adding content and you'll be fine.

I agree with the two posters above. Usually when you go down in ranks like that you bounce back to a postition higher then before. In fact I would not look at the google rankings everyday. Just keep building links and check once a week or so. If you check daily your blood pressure shoots up .

Yeah, I noticed that. It was pretty late when I posted.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The site is about 4 months old. And I didn't just drop to a different page... I'm literally no where in Google for that keyword. I'm still indexed.

But, I'm not going to check everyday. Just gonna keep building links.

      Thanks again!

Maybe this happened because of the Google Dance. You will get back the ranking.

How many pages does the site have? Is Adsense installed? The reason I'm asking is because a boatload of people with keyword-rich domain names and thin sites with adsense installed (think the xfactor crowd), have had their sites spanked all the way back into the dark corners of the G00gle SERP, and those sites never returned. This has been happening during the last seven weeks, and it is still happening today.
