#1 in Google but not much traffic

I posted this in other forum but I think to post here as well. Maybe WSO can give me more ideas on this:

I built a blog 6 months ago. I register the domain name exactly with my targeted keywords.

Before that, I have research on the keywords:

Google Keyword Tools:
Monthly search: 110,000 (Broad), 22,200 (Exact)

Market Samurai:
Daily exact search: 700+, If rank at top:300+

I then focus on link building from last few months and this keyword is rank at #1 in Google now.(previously it stay at #3 for few months already).

As per Market Samurai research, I should received at least 300 unique visitors since I have rank #1. But I check on my stat, my website only receive less than 100 that come with this keyword.

Is this normal? Or the Google and Market Samurai data are inaccurate?

I'm quite disappointed with the result as I have put a lot of efforts in this blog but only getting pity traffic.

Anyone having the issue that I have?

these tools are just an estimated guide and not 100% accurate.

theres also trends that you should look at. some keywords are seasonal (christmas gifts), and some may have past its peak of interest (haiti earthquake).

if that's not the case then give it another month or two.

you cant really exactly predict how much traffic you will get for a given kw. even tho kw tool shows 22k exact searches per month for your kw, not all the visitors will find your site #1 across all regions. different visitors from different part of the world or even country will see different results as google serves the search results from their datacenters worldwide. you see your site on #1 but someone else across the country might see it #3

aside form that, your site title, url, and description has something to do wiht it as well. visitors will not click on a link unless they are interested in your site after reading the title/description

As others have said they are an estimate based on historical information at the time. There are cycles some things go through or can be seasonal. This can work in your favour or against you sometimes.Get developing traffic strategies and see where it goes.

Thanks for all comments to shed me some lights on these.

I do read a few ebooks sharing on how to make micro niche blogs that target low competition keywords which have monthly search in 3K - 5K range.

If Google Keyword Tools is not that accurate, how if ones have implement all this and end up discovered there is no traffic at all even they have rank #1 in Google. All hard works will go into vain.

Is there a way to get estimated traffic prior to implementing a site?

I read somewhere in the WF post. You maybe #1 in your country but not in another. And google dance so your rank may drop at times. Some seach a few keyword but did not click even it is #1. This may factors into less clicks.

Traffic aside, what are you doing to convert the 100 visitors a day?
100 a day is a good number. Don't get caught up in numbers. They are just numbers.

Totally depends if your link is something someone wants to click on. Take these for example.

1. Dog Tricks
2. Teach your dog new tricks
3. Teach your dog new tricks while he sleeps!

People click on the first link that interests them. NOT the FIRST link displayed. If all these appeared in the top 3 positions, what one would you ignore and what one would you click on?

Google keyword tool and other keyword research tool strongly says that all data are just an estimate with the previous data so don't expect the exact visitors as mentioned by the tool. Also don't focus on the exact keyword try LSI keywords and focus on the conversion.

There's no issue when it comes to evaluating the data from Google Adwords Keyword Tool or Market Samurai. The thing that you should work out more is SEO for you to get noticed by a lot of users in your niche. Also try to research on relevant and ranked blogs and contact them, communicate with them and build relationship. They may also help you with your needs in promoting your brand -- don't forget social networks are just a click away so be serious in making connections.

The traffic estimates is based on how many people search, and the average CTR for first position.

However, CTR can vary from close to nothing to 90 %.

How compelling is your title tag (Or the green headline in the search results).

For your listing to be clicked on, people need to find what they were looking for and be convinced to click on your listing.

You can test this by logging into google webmaster tools and test what results you get with different Title tags.

it also happened to me with keywords that supposed to have 70,000 exact search and i get only 2,000 hits from google (i`m on the 1st result).......................

it happened alot lately i guess google database is not updated

These are always estimates and I've never seen them really be accurate. I just use them as a gauge to see if a market has enough volume to bother with. Since you do have number one for your main term. Take all the 200 or so related terms about build pages around those. Start with the highest traffic least amount of volume and work your way out. Make sure they can all be related to your niche. So many people focus on just a single keyword, but you should be ranking for every one you can rank for. The combination of all these pages will add up and give you the traffic you desire.

  Remember its not the quantity of visitors you get that is important but the quality of these visitors...
  
  Do you make money per view only? I know a lot of people I have coached who can turn 100 visitors a day into serious profits.
  
  Asking for advice here, will lead you to have 100 different suggestions, but most will not help you as nobody knows what niche you are targeting and what your landing page etc looks like.
  
  For the sake of security of your niche perhaps do not announce it here. Instead try to find a mentor, maybe someone who has a good reply on this thread, and see if they can help you turn things around. It could be something very silly as the headline doesn't grab enough attention or maybe you page does not load in all browsers...
  
  What ever it may be, a mentor will help you and will even help convert the traffic better.
  
  Remember its not the quantity of visitors you get that is important but the quality of these visitors...

  Google has a tendency to show the results it thinks you want to see. Have you asked someone else to do the same keyword search on a different machine?
  
  I have several browsers on my computer. If I'm searching to see where a domain is in the rankings I NEVER use the same browser for searching as I do for clicking and opening the site.

I think the problem is with the keyword. May be people are not searching with your keyword in the net.

Market Samurai and Google External Keyword Tool will give you the same
data. Market Samurai will only divide the number of searches Google shows
per month to give you a daily estimate.

Now, talking about your problem. The numbers shown are the result of an
year average monthly traffic. It may happen the keyword was searched
in the past but now the volume of search has decreased.

That's typical with product launches keywords, news or seasonal searches
(think halloween or christmas related searches).

In your keyword analysis you forgot to mention the one thing that would
give it relevancy. The Volume Search Trend. It's shown in the Google
Keyword Tool .. I think Market Samurai has it too, but it's not shown by
default.

  The science of statistics is never accurate, it guesses based on some data. If you're unsatisfied with your number of visitors, redirect them to me...

Are your title and description compelling enough to generate clicks, Sometimes we optimize too much for the search engine spiders and forget that our readers are human, if your title and description are not interesting and captivating enough readers will just click on the more interesting title and description listed under yours.

The number of searches in these tools is very accurate. You can see that Google's tool (the most accurate) and Samurai match very well. The problem is these numbers are last month's numbers. Doesn't mean it will be the same this month.

Other issue I have is if a tool, Market Samurai in this case, says you will get a certain number, don't believe it. There are many other variables which will affect this click rate. I know where they got the numbers from, a so-called study done a few years ago which may not be accurate today and which is flawed. Most who get the top organic position are not likely to get a 42% click rate. About half that is more likely.

You're getting 100 clicks but you don't know how many searches for which you appeared in top position, much less other positions. Who's to say that wasn't for 200 searches?

Niffy in post above has it absolutely right. Don't forget that humans read listings, not computers. You have to make attractive to humans.
