Thanks for this list - didn't know about some of the sites. You can also use compete dot com to check how much traffic each site receives. I noticed a big drop in traffic on some of the document sharing sites but don't know if it's due to Google updates or that people a re using these sites less than before.

I also know a good one document sharing site named as slideshare. It also provides do follow links in your document and Google also indexed it very fast.

As for as what you are referring to content is original as long as there are not copes of it on the site already so you should be all good.

how do these sites actually work, never used doc sharing, im guessing i can just write up an article that i want to share and turn it into a .PDF and away i go?
how do i go about backlinking can this be done into the PDF or is it through my author account or something?

Basically yes. You can find many HTML to PDF converters online. Some free, some paid.

I just use OpenOffice as its free and you can easily create neat professional looking PDF's with all the text properly formatted your links hyperlinked etc.

You can make PDF's from the articles already on your site.

Or create them from some PLR content.

That wouldn't be negative SEO no. That happens all the time as people take content from one site they found and place it on another (blogs, forums etc). Google will always give your site the credit (rank higher) for that content as it was found on your site first.

Also if said content has hyperlinks to your site that is seen as a backlink. And a backlink on a high PR Google friendly Web 2.0 site also.

So in answer to your question yes you can do that. But definitely do both and more of the latter. There are many people visiting these sites looking for information. Be it directly on their PDF enabled PC, mobile or tablet device.

This is why its also good to make your website available in PDF format anyway!
