Google articles disappearing!

Ok I'll try to make this quick!

I worked on 3 quality articles and submitted to Ezine monday. They were published later in the day and were hovering around page 2-3 in the search with one even making page 1.

I've been keeping an eye on them this week and today noticed that they seen to have completely disappeared out of google. I mean I can't find them in the first 15 pages!

I have however noticed that some scammer has scraped two of the articles for his blog and is rating on page one for the search term with one of the articles.(links and credits removed off course!)

So my questions -

1. Where the heck have my articles disapeared to! I know that articles often get a temp boost when published for being new content but to be there one day and then not at all the next seems a bit suspicious.

2. Why would this scammer site have got itself onto the front page. Surely this make a mockery of the whole duplicate contect argument in google - the duplicate content is ranking and the original is nowhere to be seen!

3. If this site has something to do with this is there anything I can do?

Have I been nuked?

Appreciate any comments as to me it makes a mockery of whole point of actually trying to do things the right way. I may as well just copy others work and save myself the time!

      Hi thanks for the reply. This is going to sound dumb but what would Ezine be able to do about it? If someone just copied the text from the article when searching google I don't see how they can do anything about it. Reporting to google may I guess. How would I do this?

        Not sure what ezine would do do either put the person is stealing from ezine as well as you, to report the site to google go to

        and follow the instructions outlined there.

    I think that is reality and what you can expect. If you want to stay there longer, you have to make backlinks for the articles.

    Whoa there!

    You published your article on a directory created for the purpose of syndicating your articles. And when that article is picked up by a webmaster that graciously chose to publish your syndicated article you are shocked and outraged? :confused:

    Do you even know what article syndication is?

    Now the fact that the publisher failed to provide attribution is a reason to be upset. You should contact the publisher and request attribution or removal of your article. If he refuses you can send a cease and desist letter to him and CC his hosting company. You can also follow that up with a complaint to Google and request the removal of the plagiarize content from Google's search results. You only have rights when you are willing to defend them.

      Thanks but I think I understand the point of syndiaction!

      Cheers for the help on the actions to take btw.

      My greatest puzzlement is that article gets published Mon. Page 2 google. Tues page 2 google. Weds page 1 google. Thurs Page 1 google Fri - can't even find it indexed at all!

      But at the same time mysteriously a chain of blogs turn up in google which seem be to link wheeling the article (dug around a bit more) finally ending at my article on a site with no attribution and all keywords removed.

      I could put up with someone just copying the article and not attributing. It happens. But I'm more interested to know if there is any connection. A second article published on the same day has simliarly disappeared from page 2 of google and is nowhere to be seen.

      So yesterday I had two good ranking articles on keywords and today I can't find them on the long tail title!

      So I guess its just an open discussion of is this possible, are the two events linked, whats happened to my articles and has anyone else experienced this?

        What you seem to be experiencing is the effect of the duplicate content filter. To ensure diversity in the SERP Google will typically filter all but the canonical version of a document. In this case the syndicated article published by the aforementioned publisher is ranking higher, and due to this, has been selected as the canonical.

        If you build sufficient links to another instance of your article it will take over as the canonical. When you syndicate your articles you put each republished page into competition for the preferred canonical. The page that is promoted the heaviest is typically the one that avoids the filter and is selected as the canonical.

        This is, in part, why article syndication can be so effective. You create a competitive market for the canonical version of your article, which leads to more promotional activity as each publishers competes to be the canonical version. Of course, this all breaks down when the publishers fail to provide attribution back to you.

          As a further update the articles are still ranking highly in bing and yahoo so it seems so far to be a definate google thing.

          What you say kind of makes sense but I did believe that google would add weight to the original author i.e. use a publish time etc so as to give the author some protection on duplicate content. This is for obvious reasons that it would be easy to 'snuff' out newer sites by just republishing their content on higher authority sites and promoting.

            Hi yoshi74,

            Google does not use "publish time" since it can easily be faked. They do consider indexed date/time, but they do not rely on that either since there can be no guarantee that their spider will crawl the original version first. It's really just a best guess based on a number of factors which PR seems to be the most significant.

    Sometimes articles tend to conduct a crazy dance like you are experiencing. They are ranking well initially and then they settle back down to where Google feels they are better suited for their organic search engine results.

    You migth try building a few high quality backlinks to your articles in order to see if you can drive them back up the search engine results with the intent to anchor them in place through additional backlinks.

    By any chance did you see any other articles from EZA ranking within the first 15 pages of results for your keyword phrase? if you did then those articles knocked your articles out of the results.

    Also, did you see any other article directories being represented with articles for your keyword phrase? If so, submit your own article there in order to try and knock them out of the search engine results.

    To get your content to rank higher simply throw more quality backlinks at it and within time all those scraper sites will no longer rank for the content they took from you.

    Ezine is a trusted authority with google. Give your content some link love so that you can get your original content to stick like glue

    Stealing someone else's writing and stripping off the copyright/other attributes of authorship is called plagiarism. It's illegal. You can't say that there's nothing one can do. I'd notify Ezine AND google and give the details of the situation.
