Quit worrying about PageRank. PageRank is not the only thing that matters and it isn't the holy grail of SEO. Everyone spends way too much time thinking about that.

      I KNOW!!

It is ticking me off too, I'm expecting to be boosted from PR4 to PR6+ so this is a biggie update for me.

No more comments about pr not being a big deal. It's a huge deal in SEO When your main page gets a boost in pr all your sub pages linking off of it get a boost in pr... The more sub pages back linking to your main page with a higher pr means a boost in organic rankings. I'm really confused as to why people feel the need to write of PR. It has become mostly the only thing a care about when it comes to links.

PR updates should really only matter to link sellers or those websites that rely on PageRank as a part of their business model.

PageRank is constantly being updated everyday, although the Google's toolbar PageRank is only updated every three months. When the PR update comes it will not automatically update your "SERPs" to reflect the PageRank change. The SERPs are not affected by the Google Toolbar PageRank update.

        Hi Derek,

The important thing to realize is that PR doesn't change with toolbar updates, PR changes in real-time. This is one reason you cannot rely on the Toolbar PR as an accurate number, it isn't.

While PR is a significant weighting factor in link value, it is only one of several significant factors. And since it is impossible to get accurate PR data, it makes it less useful for SEO than some of the other factors.

In my opinion, it is far more useful to understand how much traffic a page receives and how well targeted that traffic is. That is a more reliable measure of link value and probably indicates where the PR will be in the near future, rather than relying on where it was in the recent past. After all, we are heading towards the future and away from the past, are we not?

I'm not sure people care when you can build a rather lucrative business around the purchasing and selling of links.

I've seen links go for $2,000/mo. for a single link. Obviously that was a very high PR from a very nice TLD.

Point being is you can easily get $100/mo++ per backlink sold from the right domain. Get a nice network of links sold and you can bring in a nice chunk of residual income each and every month.

I don't care about selling links, I don't want to do that stuff, I just have a sort of new site {4 months old} and never actually saw my site go up in PR yet so i'm just worried I'm doing something wrong.

I actually have a list of very high PR blogs that I use to make backlinks off. I've seen great results off them.

I like to see the PR of things for my backlinks... see which websites are viewed more as an authority from google etc. I don't really care about the Pr of my own web pages.

I am beginning to care only because I think something's wrong. Should I still be a 0 after I opened my site in April?

Patience. 3 or 4 months is not enough time to establish trust with the google.

You never know with Google. I don't think they like to be totally predictable. They like to keep you hanging, and through a few surprises on occasion. It will happen soon enough I guess.

I just hope they aren't imposing some kind of deliberate penalty on me. Because my site acquired a glut of the backlinks from our old site when we opened the new one. If we're "naturally" a 0, that's fine by me.
