How hard is it to get to a PR 1?

...Here I go again with the PR stuff, but i'm starting to get a little worried. I know, people always say it doesn't really matter what that number is, but i only really care about it as a sign that i'm moving in the right direction. My site's been up since the start of April and is still a 0 only. Now...is that weird? I have a LOT of links--we needed to rebuild them fast when our original site was destroyed, we moved, aand we were unable to 301 to the new site. We are starting to rank...pretty well considering the site's young age, not great but I'm not expecting to get back to where we were after 5 years on the old site, in only 5 months on this new one. {Lately we've stagnated, but it could be worse.} But after transferring almost all our old links almost right away to the new site plus heaping on many more over almost 4 months, and not seeing any outright penalty incurred {I didn't know about any dangers of a sudden glut of links back when I did it, we just didn't want all those sites to sit there with a broken link while we got no traffic!} it just has me scratching my head that nothing's changed PR wise. Is something weird going on or is this normal? We have a lot of mid to high level links at this point and no they aren't all blog comments in fact very, very few are. Most are links that the owners placed willingly on their sites because they are also RPGs or related sites. Yeah we also got many small links too but doesn't everyone?

What you are describing is not so atypical. Google's data is often unreliable, and that includes deplay PR. I have seen display PR go from 0 to 2 in one update, skipping over 1. In a word,t he damn thing doesn't always update. But keep in mind that Google "knows" exactly what your real PR is, and that's what counts.

    groovystar,

ive had this problem myself at time. love to hear how more people have pushed through the stagnation. ive worked on sites that are pr 4 that have the same look stats, links, etc as some sites of mine that seem to be staying at pr 0. hopefully some people speak up with more info

I think in the past 5 months there hasn't been in the way of PR updates (probably only 1 if memory serves). I would try and relax at least until the update which should be coming any minute now and see where it falls.

Profile links seem to offer some dramatic PR gains BTW

It has nothing to do with "time" and everything to do with what links you get. PR is computed based on your links, not based on how long you have been around.

Two years though is plenty of time. I have a 4 month old site.

I just keep on adding quality backlinks, or at least as quality as I can find. Like from 2 to 4 PR. I add like 10 to 20 a week then sit back and see what happens. Nothing so far but it is still a new site...maybe just doesn't have that many backlinks yet compared to most.

PR is way over-rated. I have ranked plenty of sites with no PR over plenty of sites with PR. I once ranked an NAPR dot info domain over a fortune 500 company that was a PR7 for one of their niche keywords. It is all about relevancy.

I Actually thought it was very simple to get a PR 1. I did not even knew about PR and someone told me your website is doing good (its got PR 1) i did some reasearch and was very happy with the PR 1. Suddenly after 2 months or so my website (which I did not change much but only added many more backlinks) got back to PR 0. Still struggling (after 3 months) to get it to PR 1 atleast.. Any help???

Sometimes it's too hard. Sometimes it's is too easy. Just keep on build the link for your site. I know, it will work. But do not spam! :-)

Think the last PR update was end of April, so you probably just missed that one - another is due so you could be seeing movement soon.

I regularly see new sites go straight in with a PR 2 or 3 so wouldn't worry too much.

Wow straight to a 3? I'd be thanking my lucky stars knowing I did something right!

Still a 0 but we are slowly recovering from our google ban {Our host's software accidentally banned google for 2 weeks!} but even during the ban our traffic was about the same, that was the weird part. Probably wasnt long enough to see it dip really low.

Is posting related articles on your website could increase your PR?
