Is link building necessary?

Everyone says "content" is the "king". So why need link building ? I am going to explain this with a real life example.

Suppose there are 200 good sites talking about the topic "Will meditation cure cancer". Suppose all these sites have good contents related to the topic. Since every website have really good contents, how Google and other search engines give top 10 positions out of 200 sites.

Here search engines will have to decide what sites are best voted by users. To determine the site popularity search engines have to consider back links.
So you can see even though the content is the king, it will not able to help to get top rank without link
building when competition is high.

I agree about getting links, but getting quality links, not just link, is becoming increasingly important.

Yes that's correct. No matter how good your content is and how well optimized your on page seo is, your site simply won't get noticed without backlinks and especially quality links pointing to your site.

You will get noticed but it might take a bit longer without the link building as you don't have any kind /trust/authority (especially if your site is new)

    Hi oshanika,

Link building at the beginning is for the mere exposure of your website to the general public. Even if you create awesome content, but no one visits your site, no one is going to refer it and you will not get top rankings as well.

It is all about being realistic. You start online without a name. People will not read your content until they find it. They will not search for you so you need to create backlinks in places where people are present like social media, directories and the likes. And if they like your topic, they will click.

Now good content plays a role in retaining the visitor. When people like your content, they will go back and they will read more content from you. They will read your emails and you will build a relationship with them. Now once you refer a product, that is when you will make a sale.

So content and backlinks work hand-in-hand here as you can see.

While reciprocal links are still great and help you obtain better link popularity, many SEO organisations agree that inbound links are more valuable. One way links are also known as one way inbound links. Acquiring these valuable one way links is a lot more difficult than reciprocal links. one way inbound links are a tool that can be quite beneficial to the webmaster.

The one way backlinks are those that are natural links in a website, directing visitors to your content. one way backlinks are those where you point to a site, or a site points to you without a link being returned. One way links are the absolute best way to increase the link popularity of the site and get relevant links for natural SEO. Since there are loads web directories you can spend a lot of time submitting your information in order to receive those important one way backlinks.

Now submission to free directories to one way backlinks is considered crucial for SEO. Once articles are submitted to the article directories you will generate one way backlinks which are content rich. Writing many articles and then submitting them to article directories for publication a superb way to build one-way links. Submitting your site to many relevant directories is a good way to get one-way links to your site, as long as they are relevant and high quality directories.

One way link exchanges are also a great way of building links to your site. A link exchange directory that allows you to build one way backlinks is a great tool to find. The link popularity services include article submissions and general directory submissions to provide a lot of quality one way links. Once these articles are submitted to article directories then you could generate up to 302 quality one way backlinks which are relevant. Some article directories allow you to have your keywords in the article body that link back to your site giving you high quality one way links. Just one article submitted and picked up in this way can give you lots of one way backlinks pointing to your content. a normal link building campaign can cost you a lot of money for quality, one way links.

One-way link building is a great way to improve your link popularity and ranking in the search engines. Due to the nature of link building not realistic to give an exact figure for how many links you will need as one quality link could be worth a a lot of poor quality links, but you will need to get quality one way links. One way link building is essential for search engine optimization.

Manual directory submissions are an extremely cost-effective way of getting more links and thereby boosting your SERP. The experts in search engine optimisation one way backlinks the main ingredient to better rankings. One way links are a vital part of today's strategies for building the best ranking on search engines.

One way links are the best links since a lot of experts agree that search engines penalize reciprocal links but they are still important when building your link popularity. One way links are the most effective links but the hardest to obtain. Reciprocal links and one way inbound links are exchanged with like-minded quality sites to increase relevant traffic to your site.

But most of the directories provide "no follow" links, so unless somebody else picks up your article and posts it on a "followed" site, the link is no good, correct?

I am completely agree with you my friend, these days competition is very tough to increase your rank you have to compete with lots of other site having the similar content. And in this competitive world, backlinks really helps you achieve your target. But quality backlinks are important not just backlinks.

Great Content is King, which will make people want to link to it. If you want to be found in the serp's, then backlinks will be one of the main reasons you appear on the front page.

Yes, that is a very good metaphor for this case. Content and backlinks should work together harmoniously to rule the sites so that it can gain the best position

Great content is king. I get huge traffic to my sites and I've never done much linking except between my own sites.

If you build top quality content then that's all you really need to do.

    It's a funny situation, really.

In an ideal world, I think Google would prefer people not to build links to their own sites, which in effect are "artificial votes" for their own content. However, Google should and will realize that in order for a site to attract natural links it first needs to receive some exposure.

That exposure could be through referral traffic if you can get a prominent listing on sites like Digg and Reddit (which often won't happen easily for content that isn't particularly controversial / entertaining), through other advertising mediums, or indeed in their own (or other search engines) SERPs.

Even if you achieved a decent enough ranking for long enough to attract a reasonable amount of traffic, there's no guarantee your content is going to attract a sufficient number of links or the necessary link velocity to keep it there and ranking in what you (or even visitors to your site) consider to be its "deserved rank" in the SERPs -- particularly when your competitors are building a greater number of higher quality links around you, thus themselves manipulating the whole algorithm.

So really, as advanced as Googles algorithm is, and as much as Google likes to reinforce the idea that content is king (and whilst there is an element of truth to that), backlinks are still necessary. Furthermore, unless you already have a very "high-powered" authority site (and even if you do, in some cases), that means you're probably going to have to build your own backlinks -- or at least engage in methods that are likely to attract backlinks (such as submitting articles for republication / social bookmarking, etc) -- on a continual basis, unless you're fine with all your rankings falling off over time.

So yes, create excellent content, and good quality sites. It does give you a better chance of attracting natural, on-going backlinks. But I'm afraid in most cases that alone will not be enough. You're going to have to promote your own content in the same way offline businesses also normally have to promote their own products well if they're ever going to establish the credibility they need to make sufficient sales.

As they often say: "you can have the greatest product in the world, but without good marketing, it'll never receive the recognition it deserves". The same is true with ranking content in Google.

    Hi oshanika,

Google considers your page as part of a web and they look at the content contained within this web to determine your page's relevance. Therefore backlinks, as well as outbound links, are part of your content.

    Backlinks = content

Some backlink content is better than other backlink content and, as such, are better quality links.

    Content is still king!

Google algo originally was based on idea of calculating popularity of the site based on the references from other sites (backlinks). While it's definitely much more complex now (not that it was simple at the beginning) backlinks are still essential part of ranking.

Content is the King. That's a correct statement. But who said Content on your website is the King? You will need good content on your website and you need good content off your website to get ranked. SEO is about continuous content (some on your website and some as continuous backlinks).
