Please help! Need suggestions! Is this plan flawed?

This is my first post and I'm a newbie in IM, Please bare with me. I learned this method from one of the adsense ebook.
Here's what I did:
1. I bought 100 articles from elance for varying topics - all of which are high cpc. The articles are probably not the highest quality articles. I targeted niches with clicks paying upwards of $20- although I never had a click pay that much. The most I've earned per click is about $6 and most clicks were around $1-$3.
2. From the 100 articles I also bought 20 domains and divided the articles into the respective domains. Each domain has between 5-10 articles.
3. I did some link-building but they were not effective at generating mass amounts of traffic. All my sites were eventually indexed in google, bing, yahoo and the traffic was steady but nothing spectacular.
4. The 20 sites were on different domains with templates are high ctr adsense upwards of 15%-20%
That was about a year ago and now my domains are starting to expire. Based on the poor ROI I might let all the domains expire and I just about broke even between domain registrations, hosting, articles. Now I have 250+ articles of which I own the rights and I don't want waste the articles so I decided to give it another try but this time take a different approach. I decided to to put all my articles on a single wordpress site with the articles broken up into the various categories and monetizing with adsense.
This is a new domain and the web pages are just starting to appear in google. I've invested heavily into this plan and seeing no positive results. I'm not afraid of hard work or too much work but I don't want to focus on the wrong areas that goes nowhere.
My plan is to build links from web 2.0 sites and drive traffic from article directories. Can anyone give me some pointers or suggestions? I would be grateful if you can provide me with some directions as to what I should do to actually turn a profit with this plan. Here is the new domain if it helps... articleshd.com.
