Help for ranking higher on Google

Hi all,
Most of the sites I build focus on lower searched/lower competition keywords, and I generally make about 20-40 posts per website focusing each time on one of these keywords.
One thing that this helps with is obtaining constant backlinks from all of my sites. Right now I place all of the links to my other pages along the sidebar. That way each post I make instantly creates 40 individual backlinks to posts from my other sites (hope that makes sense!).
There are numerous posts of mine that rank in the first couple of positions on Page 2. What can I do to possibly get them onto Page #1? I think my backlinks are sufficient enough so i'm not sure what else I can do.
