+1 Where do people come up with this stuff

To the OP, focus on your link building, getting good anchored links, etc. It is the backlinks, and your on-page SEO, that will help you win the race, not the pagerank of your site.

Why dont you buy a domain with a page rank 5 and use that or if you want to use your own do a redirect. Make sure the page rank you buy is genuine and verified. It does not men you will straight away beat your comp but it should make it easer starting from scratch.

Btw are you sure you need a PR 5 to beat your comp. Maybe you should get a second opinion.

Yes...I am pretty sure... all of the other sites on the first page of google have a page rank of atleast 5. I used the free trial of the market samuria and it shows the page ranks of the top ten sites.

I am interested in buying a website with a pagerank of 5...but where can I find this?
And ChristopherNV...what is this forum for??????????????????Thanks.

You are getting some good advice in this thread. Buying a PR5 site (preferably 2!) is a good idea. If you are lucky you can get them below $1,000 each.

Regarding the PR you need for ranking, remember that PR is only one of the 200+ Google ranking factors. But for simplicity, it's helpful to think of a ranking as a product: relevance times PR. This may not be literally true, but it's likely to be something like/close enough to the truth. This would explain why sometimes low-PR but more relevant sites beat higher-PR sites. A combo of high relevance and hi PR is the best of both worlds, of course.

I have a site (1 week old) with PR n/a and it's got a nice seat at #5 for one of its keywords. It's beating sites with much more PR. One thing I learned quickly when I got into this was that PR wasn't a huge deal when it comes to beating another site. You really have to analyze the sites you'll be competing with and determine if it's worth going after.

I would advice you focus on link building and use your anchor text in article marketing, blogging, forums, social bookmarking, blog commenting, directories and so on. Having a page rank does not necessarily mean, you will be on top of the page. The search engine uses a number of things such as relevancy and so on. I recommend you get a book on seo for more information on this.

You want to acquire links that have pagerank to increase yours. That's the simple answer. There's lots of 'discussion' as to what kind of links are more 'valuable' than others.

What is your current page rank? Google gives Page rank on the base of your back link count if you can gain quality and quantity back link you will get good page rank on Google " Sorry if you have no page rank yet for yoru site it's very very not possible to get Page rank 5 in next update"

    Best of the luck

      ???

I have tons of 0/NA PR pages on page 1 of Google. It isn't hard and has nothing to do with PR.

Building backlinks --> SERP ranking improvements
      Building backlinks --> PR

But PR does not equal SERP rankings.

Some backlinks may help SERP rankings, some backlinks may help PR, and some backlinks may help both SERP rankings and PR.

Sure, depending on the backlinks sometimes PR and SERP rankings are correlated, but that is a completely different story to say that they are causally related.

In other words, you are focusing on the same thing. If you build the backlinks with SERP ranking in mind, will you likely get some PR? Sure. But, I have no doubt you can get to PR5 without much SERP ranking improvement at all also. Again, focus on the backlinks.

      Tom

  • Your Best bet is to...

swing on over to attracta . com and pick up a badge for your website.

once you have your badge on your website when a search engine crawler comes by they detect your attracta badge and instantly rank your page higher than anyone without a badge in some niches this means #1 ranking for yahoo, google and bing

    hope that helped!

ps for some reasons if you get just a couple positive comments on your website it really can make all the difference in your rankings!

Your barking up the wrong tree dude.

Also, I use (on money site) Google Adwords at 1p per click.

Lots more to SEO than PR, believe me

Wasting your time focusing so much on PR....

Build backlinks... and PR will come eventually. Personally I think Google is going to throw PR out the window for another method.

PR is just a tiny portion of what determines your ranking.

Your on page SEO and backlinks are more important to focus on.

You have to remember that Google places sites like that in the search results when their isn't a better match. That was the closest match it found that was trusted to give you information pertaining to your search.

Meaning you are searching for: How to Bake a Chocolate Filled Cake

Google knows a bunch of cooking sites out there talk about baking a chocolate cake. They don't really fit perfectly but they were the best match up for you at the moment.

However because of your on page optimization and backlinks your page is really about Baking a chocolate filled cake...so your little PR0 beat out the the page that was just general chocolate cakes. Even though they were an authority on different types of cakes.

You always want to be the best match you can be. This means content that talks about various chocolate filled cakes... linking to other content on your site talking about chocolate filled cakes...linking to other content talking about chocolate filled cakes. Linking them with the keywords you are targeting. This internal linking structure will help you build relevance to a crawler for all things about chocolate filled cakes or whatever.

Then you need to build your backlinks linking to these internal pages as well. Not just the main domain.

You may not become #1 overnight for your term. Your competition may be authority sites on cooking that have been around for 10 years. However if you do everything right you will take them over even if it is 12 months down the road when your domain has matured.

See this is why people build all the time. There are a lot of things I can look at instantly and say yeah I should be able to grab that top spot in 90 days or less... But then their are some things you want to rank for that are just going to take time and persistence. You don't work on them all the time. You work on them occasionally... once a week or once every two weeks... You can't spend all your time on them because you won't be making money from them until they move up in the rankings.

      Build your backlinks from:
RSS submissions, Article Directories, Forum Links, Video Sites, Press Releases, Blog links, Web 2.0 properties, social bookmarks, lay some link bait ...etc...etc...etc...

Another thing is traffic your site gets... Google pays attention to how much traffic you get. They track all this data from other sites, their doubleclick crap, their toolbar, etc... (But that is all I'm going to say about that... have to figure that one out on your own)

A lot has to do with the quality of your links. I would much rather have a backlink from G4TV with a lower page rank than one of the PR 7 backlinks you can buy on a blog that was created to sell links, has 10 visitors a month, and no authority.
Though the BL from the PR 7 blog might increase my PR and perhaps my SERPs slightly, the link from G4TV Will increase my Serps, often times significantly though the PR is nowhere near 7 for the specific page the link is on.

Articles are great and I mentioned them...however they aren't given a lot of weight in the grand scheme of ranking one of your pages. Certain directories are great for direct traffic, others are backlink cannon fodder sites. They fall into the diversity of links. Another form of linking that is not the be all end all of backlinks. You really have to have links from all sorts of places. Some articles that rank help you rank an external page better not because of the backlink but because of the traffic they produce... which falls into the hint I was trying to make at the end of my last post.

Tom actually said my thoughts exactly here:

Except I do feel they help serp ranking in the overall portfolio of backlinks you have...unless they are all from article directories.

I would really hope that people STOP, equating whois links with having any effect on your SERP rankings or automatically creating backlinks. I have seen MORE and MORE, people lately on a number of forums advocating how great these whois backlinking tools are (sometimes even advocating to basically ping your site to 30,000 of these sites).

Now please listen, these sites and tools are ONLY FOR GETTING YOUR SITE INDEXED! They don't create 30k pr7 backlinks for you, they won't skyrocket your pagerank, and it doesn't blow senuke or xrumer out of the water. The links that are automatically created when you ping your website, are 99.99999% all nofollow, so they do not affect your SERP rankings in any respect. If you don't believe me, take a look at the source code of a couple of your links and see for yourself.

That said, the second thing to point out, is you DO NOT need to pay someone to ping your site to 30k of these whois sites. Nor do you need to do it yourself. If you submit your site to say less than 50 of these sites, it will have the same indexing affect as if you did it to 30k.

There are 3 ways to get page rank that I know of.

    Links from other sites

    internal linking

Traffic. Yes, if people have the Google tool bar installed and they visit your site you get a little juice for this.

Do everything right and build outside links and your page rank will improve. I know what every one says about page rank but it still makes me lots of money as people constantly bug me for links on every PR 3 and above site I own. Text links are 10.00 per month or 100.00 per yr and I sell tons of them because people just want links on sites with good PR rank. I use text link ads and sell directly also.

In fact I plan to build out more high PR sites and sell more text links in the future using link pyramids to build up my sites PR. Google link pyramid if you need an explanation of these and how they work.

My outside link building method of choice - offering articles and content in exchange for permanent do follow links on blogs covering my chosen subject.

I haven't read the ENTIRE thread but just judging by your first few posts you seem a little hung up on increasing page rank with the hope that it will translate into better rankings for you against your competition.

Just remember, page rank is only one factor.

If all you want to do is increase page rank, go ahead and do just what people have suggested for you to increase page rank with. ie. back linking to higher page ranked/higher authority sites. Because that will work to increase page rank.

But more likely you ultimately just want your site to rank higher against the competetion, in which case you need to focus on other things as well, not just page rank.

Join forums, forums are a great way to achieve links to your website. In most forums you are allowed to have a signature and in your signature you can put a link to your website. But another important note to look on is making sure the forum is somewhat related to your website. You will still get credit if it's not, but if it's related to your website than you will be accomplishing two tasks at once.

PR does not matter for small competition, but for big competition, it does seem to matter.

If the term is millions of results and (important) is being actively SEO'd by others, than I'm sure your PR will be taken into consideration. Check out your competition for the term you are after...are they applying SEO on it, and is it highly competitive?

PR is waaaaaaaay over-hyped. I don't even pay attention to it anymore. It is only good for selling to newbies that think it matters. I have ranked many-a-PR0's above high PR pages. For example, I have a PR0 on the first page of Google right now with 10,000,000+ competing pages with a variety of PR's. It is all about relevancy...not PR...PR should be thrown in the trash, it has ruined SEO.

Getting even a PR3 is difficult unless your site has been around a long time. If you don't know how hard it is to get a PR5, that probably means you shouldn't try.

But like the others said, you don't necessarily need to beat a pages PR in order to rank above it in google.

Take a look at all of the PRs on the first page of google for your keyword. If the average is more than 2 or 3, you might want to go after a different keyword.

PR really means nothing in terms of SERPs. I mean, it's a consideration, but it's relatively small.

You'll find that domain age, traffic, #backlinks, and content makes all the difference in the world. HINT: Only the last two do you have any control over, so work on that.

Alternatively, choose a different set of KWs to focus on. Think: How would somebody looking for a solution such as mine use a search engine?
