At last my website is out the Google Sandbox and is starting to rank really well. I've been advised to join bestoftheweb for $299 for a lifetime warranty, would you agree?

Any other free or paid directories you strongly recommend?

I would recomment not to build backlinks excessive. More naturally or you are risking getting sandboxed, deindexed or lose backlinks count. This is in case you are working with a new domain name.

I don't recommend to pay for the backlinks. I think natural link is the best

Me too, but there's a certain practical issue you get when you just rely on natural backlinks. How do you get people to link to a site they don't even know exists?

Why not write articles for great websites and get a link back that way? It's way better, probably cheaper as well.

Or write guest posts for blogs?

I get a great number of visitors to my websites when I just post content across the web.

Sometimes I run a contest, and ask those participating in the contest that if they want an extra 'entry' they can add me to Facebook, Twitter, link me on their blogs, etc. That helps.

I absolutely love BOTW.org, they are one of the best web directories in existence today. I have many listed sites there and think that if you do not list with them in your market place, you are not serious enough about your marketing, and in my opinion are much less likely to be a player in the industry.

BOTW is one of the best directories and I submit my top sites.

    Another great directory is Romow.com.

Don't forget Yahoo Directory and DMOZ. Submit to DMOZ but don't hold your breath on getting listed.

Why would you ask that? Check the guidelines on their site.

The only person I've seen recommending that directory on this forum is 'hotftuna' so you should really consider if it is even worth it to join that directory. Seems like shameless self promotion to me.

Natural links will always be the best. You don't want to invest into massive backlinks and then get sandboxed

Silly and naive comment. Few have content so compelling that folks can't wait to link to it. Natural links are great and yes I would avoid "massive" linking.

Submitting to a high quality directory like botw, Yahoo, dmoz, or Romow is a smart way of promoting a site.

I do not own romow although I wish I did.

I have been in the directory business for seven years now and there are a handful of competitors that I respect. I consider the top directories- dmoz, yahoo, botw, and business.com. After those I like romow, dirjournal, and avivadirectory. I own none of them.
