I was chilling on YouTube watching videos when my brother told me that I should give something to the community so I decided to make this post to help out all you guys who are just getting started making money online and trying to earn it big on the internet.

Google considers the number of links from other sites pointing to your site to be very important. It would be like if I were standing in a room and shouted "Who here knows the most about dating?" and everyone pointed at you. Then, I went around and counted everybody's hands pointing at you and realized that the number of people considering you to be a dating expert to be the best and therefore put your name as #1 on the "Dating" board.

A "backlink" is a link on someone else's website that points to yours. You should try to have as many of these as possible (yes, I know there is a difference in backlink qualities but let's keep this simple for now). The rule of thumb is, get a lot of backlinks. Or, at least, get more backlinks than your competitor for your keyword.

So, how do you check your backlinks? I will show you two ways right now:

1. Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch
2. Site Explorer - Yahoo! Site Explorer

Try out one of your sites right now on those two sites and notice the differences. Also, try out a site that is not yours and take a look at their backlinks. Notice how the sites differ.

Well, that's all for now... I have to run to get dinner. However, if anyone has any questions or related tips, just post them here and I will check them out when I get back.

  • Backlink watch has been sucking lately. Seems like every time I check a site's backlinks I get an error that ays they have maxed their search queries or something.

Any other tool like backlink watch? I just started using Market Samurai to look at the number of backlinks a site has in their SEO competition module. Seems pretty accurate.

      thanks for the post!

yeah, why do you suppose that is? do you think backlinkwatch is so popular that people are overflooding their servers? or, does yahoo just have the resources to stay up all the time despite a different method of backlink tracking?
