back link count decreased ?

Last month one of our web site having 1000 back links and , now it reduced to 500 or some closer to that. Why is that happening .. What should i do to increase this status.

You should have a good link building plan going on. If you want to keep building and not reducing you need to go out and get some sometimes. It can be tedious, time consuming, and a real pain sometimes but usually it pays off.

You need to submit more articles and possibly work on a press release and start building some more backlinks. Also, your site needs to be upto date, if you haven't added any new content lately, this might be the time.

Sometimes the bookmarked(which would have shown as multiple backlinks) links will start to disappear, carry a campaign to keep the link velocity

  Your backlinks number can fluctuate quite a bit because those other pages might be dropped from the index for a variety of reasons. Maybe the website was shut down, maybe Google shut them down, maybe they simply removed your link, maybe the backlinks you put were dofollow then, and now the owner designed them nofollow etc etc. There are just too many reasons..
  
  You should also check regularly if you have linked to bad neighborhood sites by accident. Just use a free tool to check this and if any of them are found with such links, just removed them.
